Google Chrome is well known for both its speed and minimalist interface. Unlike Firefox, which features several search engines, Chrome has more of a less-is-more attitude towards the UI. The Chrome team has come up with several concept designs, and one of them could possibly become the default on a future browser release.

Google’s new Compact mode:

Google’s new side-tab mode:

The Compact mode combines the search and address bars into a single field that serves as both a launcher and a switcher. The side-tab mode features tabs horizontally that can be easily grouped and navigated. With the new UI options, different users will be able to set up different, discrete profiles in which Person A’s synched contacts, bookmarks, and other personal data is not automatically fused into Person B’s profile. The ability to sync data anywhere will be useful to professional users. This is the most likely type of customizable option Google will offer when Chromium OS is finally shipped.
