With nearly 75% of teens owning a cell phone, the number of teenagers with cell phones and texting have clearly raised over the past few years. Surprisingly enough, about 11% of teens, mostly girls, send over 200 text messages each day! Check out this chart to see how teenagers these days are using their cell phones.

With technology becoming more and more advanced nowadays, it’s most likely that these numbers will only continue to grow. I’m assuming that, sooner or later, this chart will not only apply to teenagers, but also to elementary students as well.

None of this surprises me and its exactly why I bought my son (14) a very basic, prepaid cell phone and two years later, I refuse to update the phone for this very reason. His phone, a Samsung slider, cost me $20 then and the only frill he has is a simple little in-phone camera - he can’t surf the web or even access Facebook. I limit him also with the aircards since Tracfone operates only by aircard so I give him between 200 and 300 minutes a month so at the most its $30 for me - I don’t let him control the minutes and if he goes over, then the phone just stops working.

haha not surprising to me.. students don’t even pay attention in class.. i seem them texting all the time.. kinda annoys me since i’m trying to learn.. but yeah.. sometimes i wonder what they talk about the whole day.. LOL
thanks for sharing!

hmm...my friend does that...everytime during lessons she will text to her friend most probably a guy i guess (bf maybe keke)...she can even type without looking at the phone...she’s such a pro at texting ...I think this will affect her studies..

I don’t find it really surprising that teenagers text more than adults but 200 text a day? That number just surprising!
I don’t have a plan for texting but if I do I’m sure I’ll text somewhere around 200 a day..... just maybe.

those are some pretty graphs :D haha but that’s not the point. yeah, i think the age will get younger and younger. my little sister is only 11 and she texts a lot already raspberry

i have unlimited texting but i barely use it xD
200 text msgs is a lot O___O”
plus i barely use anything else like internet in it cuz it costs so much xD

wow interesting statistics.
sending 200 txt msgs a day is a lot!
I do own a cellphone but I’m not in the texting category since my contract does not include that unfortunately.
sexting really? :S
I totally agree with the parental control!
