News of iPhones and other smartphones collecting detailed location data on users has breached the media recently and hit the ground running. Consumers are now expressing concerns about the invasion of privacy that this location data poses, and mobile providers are now scrambling to quell the mess, especially after a letter was sent to the nation’s three largest mobile carriers from Representatives Ed Markey and Joe Barton.

The letter expressed concerns about how mobile network operators were collecting and storing private user data. Verizon responded by proposing to put location warning labels on all of its mobile devices. The warning label, which would be placed on the screen of all Verizon mobile devices, informs users that the device they have purchased can indeed collect geographic data on them. It then refers users to the user guide for more information on limiting and disabling this service.

This is a really good move from Verizon! ^^
Since people are warned ahead that they are being tracked.

pretty good thing
thanks for sharing! (:

this is pretty good to remind the ppl who use it

They shouldn’t have the tracking IN THE FIRST PLACE. Whenever companies refer you to do things to disable a service for example, it gets really complicated and annoying (most cases)

I guess this a step in the right direction. At least users will be warned of the location tracking. I think companies should show a step by step tutorial showing how to disable this service. thanks for sharing!
