According to a leaked internal memo, it has been confirmed that Apple has shut down its rebate offers for MobileMe and iWork. With the rebates, you could have gotten $30 off a MobileMe subscription with the purchase of a Mac or iOS device. $30 off a new copy of the iWork suite was also available with a Mac purchase. On the 18th, all resellers were asked to end these promotions by the end of closing that day.

Apple is said to be having an overhaul of services like MobileMe to not only make these types of programs free but also upgrade it with new options like “Find My Friend” and a media locker. Rumors about the switchover happening in April have been circulating but this would require an iOS update and since an update was recently released, the chances of another so soon are slim.

The reason for the iWork rebate disappearing is not as certain. It is most likely to boost Mac App Store sales since each program in the suite is sold for $20 in the store.

As consumers, rebates we could possibly use being cut isn’t a positive thing but at least the MobileMe rebate cancellation was to improve the product some more and add new features.
