Last year, approximately 12 million to 15 million people from around the world applied for a green card. However, only 50,000 to 55,000 people receive green card visas. Any immigrant who receives a green card may live and work legally in the US or one of its territories. About 22,000 people were chosen this year and those people’s hopes must be crushed to find out that it was all just a computer error. Therefore, the US State Department had to void all of the winners in this year’s green card lottery.
This morning, state officials have sent their apologies out for this glitch. Everyone’s names were already posted up on the State Department website and I’m pretty sure that the people who thought that they made it must have been ecstatic. However, it turns out a small programming mistake had happened and caused the results of the lottery not be be fair or random, as required by the United States law. Apparently, this little slip-up caused more than 90 percent of the entrants to come from the first two days of the registration period. Basically, this was all a first come, first serve thing.
No information has been released about what kind of a mistake this was but rest assure that it has been fixed. With new random selection algorithm, the State Department will redo the lottery drawing at a later point in time so anyone waiting to hear about their green card status will have to wait until July 15, when the new results are to be posted up. I wish you all good luck!

What a huge error made by the US State Department. I feel bad for the thousands of people who thought they were getting their green cards. Yet, I think the department is smart to redo the lottery since it wasn’t fair due to the computer glitch. It would be really unfair to people who registered a while back. Good luck to all those seeking a green card. The process is more complicated than I thought.
wow. hope it gets fixed up asap. that’s a big problem.
