US Senate Judiciary committee have unexpected unanimously voted to approve a bill targeting Internet pirates based overseas. Protect IP Act is the name of the bill, which looks to hand US Department of Justice power to seek court order against an infringing website.

Search engines could serve up the order, order certain Domain Name System providers, and Internet and advertising firms. They’d be required to make the target website vanish. Leaders of both major political parties backed the bill.

A wide range of industries also support it, such as the film and music sectors. Critrics have said that the legislation threatens free speech though. What do you think about the antipiracy bill? Is it a good decision?
