A quick visit to the Mac section of the Apple Store website and you’ll see for yourself that the MacBook is not there anymore. With their latest updates to the other models like the MacBook Air, they’ve also decided to drop and discontinue the MacBook.

At a price point that is lower than the MacBook Pro or Air, it was a pretty appealing option for anyone looking to pick up an Apple laptop. But now, the cheapest option will be the $999 11-inch MacBook Air (before additions and tax, of course).

Though if you’re an educational institution, Apple has said that they’ll still make the MacBook available for them, but for individual customers, they will be discontinued.

It’s not so bad, since I think most people end up wanting the Pro or Air models anyway. But I’m sure a few are bummed at least to see the iconic and original MacBook be cut.
