Recent surveys have revealed the number 1 reason why smartphone contact lists are lost. And that reason, my friends, is the toilet.

One-third of individuals who participated in the Mobile & Online Backup Trends Study by the online address book site Plaxo Inc. said they’d lost or damaged their phone before, and thus losing their contact lists. And 19 percent also added they had dropped their phones in the toilet.

Google also did a recent study that revealed that 39 percent of phone users have a tendency to bring their phones to the restroom.

Because of the risk of losing all your precious contact numbers, it is suggested you back up your contacts in at least one other place whether it be on a hard drive or a syncing service.

Either way, maybe we should be more careful to leave our phones outside of the lavatory. Or at least make sure they don’t fall into the porcelain throne.
