After an earthquake, rescuers often times try to listen to listen to the victims or use dogs to sniff them out; however it is sometimes difficult to find them.
In the UK researchers developed metabolite sensors that detect ammonia and carbon dioxide produced by victims when the breathe, sweat, or urinate. These sensors allow rescuers find victims in collapsed buildings.
So if you’re ever stuck in a collapsed building (hopefully not), just sweat, breathe, and to your last resort urinate.
