In October 2007 and July 2008, there was at 12 minutes of interference in a Landsat-7 Earth observation satellite system. There were also two minutes of interference in June 2008 and nine minutes in October 2008 on a Terra AM-1 earth observation.

A report from the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission wrote “The responsible party achieved all steps required to command the satellite”. However, the report claims that it wasn’t carried out until October 2008.

Also, it said that hackers potentially used internet connection at the Svalbard Satellite Station in Spitsbergen, Norway in order to get to the ground station’s information systems. So far, China have been pointed at as the potential causers of this, but they have since denied it.
