A Colorado woman’s bike was stolen outside of a sports bar; she then found the bike on Craigslist, pretended to be an interested buyer, and stole it back.

Kathryn Lucas, 25, left her bike outside of a Boulder bar when she went to watch a University of Colorado football game on October 4.

After exiting the bar to go home, she realized that her bike was missing. She had filed a police report, but decided to take matters into her own hands; she and her roommate began searching Craigslist to see if the thief was trying to sell the black Trek 1.2 road bike.

Lucas managed to find her bike, recognizing the red handle-bar tape and her water bottle holder, and responded to the ad. A person using the alias “Lance Robinson” gave her his phone number, instructing her to text him for his address.

On Sunday, Lucas visited the man’s apartment and asked for a test ride. Lucas explained, “I started riding it and knew it was my bike, so I just kept riding it. I rode it to my car and then threw it in in my car and then drove away.”

Although she did not intend on stealing the bike back, Lucas took advantage of the situation, adding, “They were a lot bigger than I thought they were. I thought it’d be like a little person that stole bikes and I’d be like, ‘Hey, I called the police and that’s my bike and you’re trying to sell it to me,’ but I just took it for a ride and went with it.”

After getting her bike back, Lucas called the police and gave them “Robinson’s” address. The man turned out to be 18 year old Denzel O’Neal Crawford, who did not have a previous police record.

After getting arrested, Crawford confessed to stealing the bike and was released on bond. Police recommended that Lucas not use that method: “They told me for future reference that I probably would not want to do that by myself.”

That’s awesome! She’s so brave to do that. As long as she got her bike back, anything would do. smile

Just lucky she found it :D

Wow, so she just went away with her bicycle? Wise decision~
I mean why wait for the police at all when it’s your own property?
18 years old and a thief already? Tsk tsk.
What a way to get arrested...what’s so good about the bike?
Thanks for sharing!!

LOL, who the pho would steal a bike? Well, a lot of people actually do that, but I really don’t see the point. XD Bikes aren’t that cool~
It’s was really nice that she got it back by herself though. I doubt I would have dared to search for it by myself. XD
