Adobe announced last week that Flash will not be developed for mobile devices, generating a flux of responses from the Linux community:

“Flash has been on the way out for a while now… the end of this closed source tumor is fantastic news. The fact that HTML5 is taking over this department is a clear sign that when given a fair chance, open standards will always proliferate over closed and locked-down ones. Shoot - even Microsoft is saying HTML5 is the future!” -Jeff Hoogland, Thoughts on Technology blogger and Bodhi Linux lead developer.

“Yes, its days are numbered, but HTML5 is looking good. Flash was potentially great technology, but Adobe messed it up by keeping it as a moving target and never getting it right. What’s with having defective versions for 64bit and GNU/Linux for the longest time? That was no way to make friends.” - Robert Pogson, blogger

“Adobe fired the wrong people. It isn’t the programmer’s fault things are a mess — it’s the fault of management who can’t decide on a direction and stick with it.” - Gerhard Mack, Slashdot blogger.

More responses can be found here, but it seems that there are quite a few mixed feelings about Adobe’s decision.

Hm.. is this just the Flash Player or the actual programme? Anyway! I like Flash. XD It is so fast and smooth~

i liked the flash thing haha…


Interesting. I like how Robert Pogson said “a moving target and never getting it right”.. so symbolic. Flash is used in iphones and ipods so maybe HTML5 will possibly fill in their spot.


Have to wait and find out. I didn’t think Flash was too bad though.
