So one of the hottest products this year has been Apple’s newest version of the iPhone, the iPhone 4S. Despite it having been a major disappointment to many, as most people were looking forward to an iPhone 5, not iPhone 4S, the phone has still managed to sell well, and is continuing to do so. So what makes this phone any better than the previous version of the iPhone?
Well, despite looking exactly the same, the 4S does have some changes “under-the-hood”. But, most of these changes are credited to iOS 5, which brings with it iMessage, which allows for free texts between iOS devices, as well as the swipe-down notification center, which is very similar to what Android phones have had for a very long time now. The biggest and most popular addition, though, is Siri, the voice recognition system that relies on web searches to answer your questions. Some other updates include an A5 chip and a 8MP camera.
However, for those that just don’t want an iPhone 4S, there are many other alternatives out there, with some even being better. First up is the Motorola Droid X. Offered by Verizon for $200 with a 2-year contract, this phone boasts a 4.3-inch display, 8MP camera as well, and a 1GHz processor. Storage is also no problem, because unlike the iPhone, the Droid is compatible with micro-SD, which means up to an extra 40GB can be added on to the built-in 16GB of memory. Regarding media, the Droid X is also more suitable, as more audio and video formats are supported. Who doesn’t like watching videos on a bigger screen?
Next up is the Samsung Galaxy S2. Also an Android phone running Google’s mobile OS, the Galaxy S2 is the successor to the Galaxy. So what does the S2 boast? Well, a bigger screen for that matter, along with 4G data, a higher resolution camera, HDTV remote control functionality, and a partnership with T-Mobile, for those who prefer it over AT&T and Verizon. In my opinion, the S2 is one of the sleekest and most stylish looking phones available on the market. Ultra-slim at only 8.49mm, and boasting a 4.3 Super Amoled Plus screen, this phone is not one to disappoint.
Another great phone to consider is the Galaxy Nexus. Also by Samsung, the phone arrived in the US to much fanfare. One of the few to run Android’s newest Ice Cream Sandwich (a.k.a versions 4.0), The phones boasts high speeds, a great camera, and simply just looks stunning. But still, what stands out the most is that this phone is the first to run Ice Cream Sandwich. This newest updated version of the Google OS is just as customizable and versatile as the previous versions, but it simply just has more. It’s more refined, more user-friendly. For a 4.7-inch phone, its relatively lightweight at only 5.3 ounces. The display is also Super Amoled Plus, and specs include a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 1GM RAM. All in all, a great phone. The design and physical body of the phone may be a bit too big for some, but it definitely beats the iPhone 4S at performance.
Now, what’s last on the list may surprise you. But guess what? A good alternative for the iPhone 4S is simply just an older version of the iPhone. The iPhone 4 and and 4S have no physical differences. Plus, the 4 is still one of the hottest phones on the market, and goes for only $99 with a 2-year contract. The iPhone 3GS is also being offered by AT&T for free with a 2-year contract. I mean, of course the 4S is faster, and has Siri, but other than that, the older versions of the iPhone can do the same things for a cheaper price.

I think I would get an alternative for an iPhone. All phones that are mainly touch screen are nice though so hard choices indeed to make one your own phone.
