BP has just shut down BP Solar, following 40 years of existence. Manufacturing in the US, Spain and Australia had been closed down beforehand to cut costs. Larger projects were the focus this year, instead of residential and rooftop installations.
In Asia, there was a rapid commercialization of lower cost solar panels, so products of BP Solar’s were not viable in Europe, Australia or the US anymore according to spokesperson Robert Wine. But there is still some positives.
Because BP will stay committed to alternative energies in onshore wind and biofuels. In recent times, many firms have shut down, as the solar industry continues to consolidate, and it has been pointed to for bankruptcies in the US.
