Michel Platini, President of UEFA, claims that video technology “is not for football”. Sepp Blater, Platini’s counterpart with world governing body FIFA, thinks that it is possible for such technology to arrive before the 2014 World Cup.

FIFA are testing possible systems in an ongoing basis. However, Platini has opposed to this, saying “Video is not for football. Human (adjudication) is better. Football became popular thanks to its human values. If that becomes a commercial value, it will lose all its popularity”.

So, there’s still a lot of room for debate on whether video technology should be used in the sport. Such high profile members like Platini have spoken out frequently in recent times. We shall see about what systems may be implemented in the future.
