NASA has recently launched a new site that introduces their open-source projects. So if you’ve always wanted to work for NASA but are not qualified to be an astronaut, maybe you can try joining their projects as a programmer instead. Unfortunately you will work for free in your spare time, but your contribution is great enough as an experience in your life, right?
Currently there are already more than ten open projects going on, and they will surely add more projects soon. Check them out and see what you can do for NASA!
