NPD reports that for the first time in several years, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 has earned first place in the monthly gaming console sales rankings. The 360 moved 422,000 units. OnLive has been in the works for 8 years and will be launching in the States on the 17th of June. The service provides on-demand streaming of games for PC, Mac, and TV. Costing $14.95 for a monthly subscription and additional charges for game rentals and purchases, OnLive will have big titles such as Borderlands, Assassin’s Creed, Prince of Persia, and Mass Effect 2. At Game Developers Conference, Sony demonstrated its Nintendo Wii challenger, the Playstation Move controller, which is touted as much more accurate than the Wii nun-chuck and is targeted at hardcore rather than casual gamers. Microsoft beat Apple to the race and presented its Courier awhile back, but most of the media still focused on Apple’s January 27th event, when the iPad was eventually demonstrated. Despite the ambivalent reception from observers, Apple stocks rose 8 points yesterday when it informed the public of the iPad’s ship date. I, for one, am far more intrigued by what Microsoft has in the pipes than Apple, even though I am a firm devotee to the latter. More »

Niko Losse and Darina Goldin are tying the knot on May 21st, but before invitees can attend the ceremony, they have to battle through a Super Mario and Donkey Kong style 8-bit game. More »

Nintendo has declared that its new DSi XL, which will debut on March 28th for $190, is also an e-reader. Apple’s iPad and iPod Touch/iPhone are breaking into the Japanese gaming corporation’s territory; the DSi XL is return fire that will a title called “100 Classic Books,” which includes works from Shakespeare and Twain. While Rob Dyer at SCEA did not actually use the term “overpriced” to describe the PSPgo, he did admit that “the higher price point” of the unit compared to the regular PSP has not helped “matters any.” The PSPgo has been a sales dud, but Sony and its third party publishers have some triple A titles on schedule for this year in hopes of boosting sales.
