Google has announced that starting the year 2012, Google will be allowing free phone calls using Gmail and the Google Voice web app. The calls are allowed only in the United States and Canada, so sorry for the rest of the world. From Htcyou: Newly announced today, Google + Hangout users will now be able to make phone calls from from their Hangout session. With this, users will also be able to have conference calls among other new features from Google +.

Though it currently is only available for those who are using Hangout with extras. But once you do, you’ll be able to dial out and invite anyone to join in on the fun.

Calls from Google+ is free to use though it seems to be only offered to those in the US and Canada, but more areas are expected to be available shortly.
