University of Tokyo’s JSK Robotics Laboratory is working on an advanced android that has a musculoskeletal (muscles and spinal column) body that is comprised of tendons and synthetic bones. The result is a robot that eerily moves like a human –think Aliens. More »

I will admit that I did not deem the Super Bowl XLIV match-up last night worth my time to watch, especially since I had an early class this morning. I did, however, manage to browse through the ads uploaded onto YouTube this morning, and the tech/gadget ad that I liked the most was the Intel ad for their new processors. More »

From Akazawa, PLEN is a 9″ robot that is powered by a 33 MHz ARM7 processor and can be controlled by Bluetooth from your computer or Android smartphone. If you have $2999.99, then you can import this “Desktop Hobby” droid from Japan. More »

Robots are usually cool for movies. Perhaps because androids remind us of ourselves in our capacity to create, or maybe we just love seeing metal blown to bits, but robots have been able to make us laugh, cry, and scream with excitement. Here are my favorite android/robot movies of all time. The criteria for this list are that the films must have been released in America, and the protagonists have to be robotic, or the plot must center around androids –therefore, Star Wars does not fit because R2D2 is not a main character, and robots are not the main theme of the series. Living in a home devoid of nectar bearing flowers, humming birds sightings are a rarity. They’re not quite something I’d blow $2.1 million on though. Japanese researchers are have currently thrown down that much to develop a humming bird robot that’ll be instrumental in helping to rescue people from wrecks, search for criminals and maybe even serve as a space probe controlled by infrared sensors. What’s better than tiny Robobuilder robots performing a synchronized dance to the season’s most loved Christmas carols? Nothing. I feel as if my life is complete now, Christmas for me is officially over since I’ve witnesed this Youtube video of synchronized dancing Robobuilder robots. More »
Adorable robots are a big weakness of ours, and adorable useful robots? We’re instantly smitten. Well, this could be love. As part of the three-year, $3.9 million DustBot research program, this helpful trash-eating robot prototype rolled through the streets of Peccioli, Italy this summer, chomping trash and recyclables. Sort of like a real-life Wall-E, the bot gathers rubbish and sorts it into recyclable, organic (hopefully to be composted), and waste. Then it whisks it off to a waste management facility, finding its way using pre-loaded maps and sensors to avoid obstacles. More »
Rockband is a truly amazing game, especially since its arrival in the Apple app store, but I don’t think it was designed to be played by robots, except this one. Created by Joe Bowers, the robot racks up the highest amount of points in the least amount of time. It seems Mr. Bowers has way too much time on his hands. Bowers made the painstaing process of creating the robot look rather easy. The base for the entire project is within a simple iPhone Pelican case, where a mess of wires, a light sensor, and a bunch of Servos are housed. More »
Independence Day is almost here and today seems like the perfect day to go visit Disney World’s “Hall of Presidents”. The “Hall of Presidents, according to Disney are animatronic creations that bring Presidents of the past to life. This week, Disney added President Barack Obama to the list and it looks absolutely amazing. (Video after the break). More »

Wall-E no longer has to compact trash but instead be a PC case. A Russian fanatic loved the little robot who could so much that he built an exact replica for his PC case.
The designer spent 18 days in his workshop and as you can see, the fruits of his labor paid off. He details the entire 18 days complete with photos on his blog. More »
