In a recent study by the University of Georgia, it seems that many people are a little less than completely satisfied with Amazon’s Kindle e-reader. While the majority of users reported that reading on the device was certainly very easy in terms of functionality as well as easy on the eyes, there were some key complaints that users hope future manufacturers will take into consideration. Aside from 3D television, the third generation “e-readers” are also a huge topic of interest. Like their television counterparts, the competition for the best e-reader out there is tough. Aside from the preexisting Amazon Kindle and the Sony Reader, other companies are pumping out their own versions of readers, hoping to flatten the competition. More »

I commend One Laptop Per Child for its vision, but there are quite a few design and concepts about its program and laptop that I would change. Here is my idea: an advanced e-reader/simplified notebook device at $299 shared by two children. More »

Can Apple be the savior for the publishing industry like they have been trying for the music industry? According to a report on CNET, Oppenheimer’s analyst Yair Reiner, says that Apple is pitching their new tablet device to publishers.

If these rumors are true then Apple can change the landscape for publishers, very similar to what they did with the App store and continuing to do with music. Currently publishers have a 50/50 split with Amazon for ebooks sold on the Kindle. Apple is planning to give publishers a 70% of that cut, making their proposal much more attractive. More »

Amazon continues to chug along this holiday season. Today they announced in a press release that November was the best month for them ever in terms of Kindle sales. They didn’t specify how many Kindles they’ve sold but it’s safe to say, they’ve sold a lot.

That’s a grand statement considering Amazon also sells Apple iPods, which are usually at the top of Christmas lists every year. This year it seems like eReaders are the way to go, as Barnes & Nobles announced earlier this month, that they’re Nook device was sold out till January.

Of course, part of Amazon’s increased sales were due to the decrease in price to $259 from $360 earlier this year and introducing a world edition in October. Since there are no hard numbers, we’ll just have to take Amazon’s word for it. They wouldn’t lie to us, right?

With the holidays coming up, and Black Friday right around the corner, many are still looking for gift ideas for this Christmas and it’s never too late to get started. One of the gadgets this year that has been talked about a lot are eReaders. That sector is getting more crowded and competitive with Barnes & Nobles recently reporting they’ve sold out all of their Nooks. To weed out all the problem, we’ve got a round up of the best eReaders on the market and what their best features are. More »

Barnes & Nobles competitor to the Amazon Kindle, The Nook, has apparently sold out. The New York Times is reporting that B&N didn’t think they’d get such a hit on their hands and are now saying they don’t have enough for everyone this holiday season.

Like Barnes & Noble, this is a big surprise to me as well. While the price is competitive with the Kindle, I didn’t think the Nook had enough to compete with the Kindle’s popularity and new print and commercial ads. To help those who might get upset at B&N for not having enough Nooks, (sounds like Nukes when you say it out loud), Barnes & Nobles is offering place holder certificates for those still interested in buying the device. The next batch of shipment will begin on January 4th, 2010.

The Kindle, leader of the ereader world, is now moving its software into the computer industry. Just yesterday, Amazon announced that they will release something called “Kindle for PC”, a free Windows application which will allow users to read their purchased Kindle books right on their PC. Now, it is reported that Apple is now looking into releasing this app for the Mac. Although Apple did not officially release this statement, Fast Company did report that this application is on the way. More »
