Microsoft’s Mix10 conference confirms many crucial things about the company’s agenda: it is turning into Apple but is late to the game. Droves of smartphone zealots are excited about Windows Phone 7’s prospects, yet much of what Microsoft is doing already exists, and worst of all, quite a few of the complaints about Apple’s iPhone will not be addressed by WP7. Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 presentation today unveiled nothing that has not been widely rumored for months: there will be no multitasking; Microsoft’s Marketplace store is the only way to obtain WM7 apps; HTC HD2 will not be upgraded to WM7. In a nutshell, Microsoft is following the strictly isolationist iPhone instead of open source Android (surprise!). In more cheerful news, Samsung, Asus, and LG all demoed WM7 devices. More »

A survey by Crowd Science indicates that an alarming number of Blackberry owners “definitely or probably would” switch over to iPhone or Android when they make their next purchases. More »

…because, as Steve Jobs has discovered, they will become your bitterest enemies. In case you did not know, Eric Schmidt was on Apple’s board of directors until August 2009, even though he has been Google CEO since 2001. There was clearly a conflict of interests, as proven by Google’s release of Android OS, which is a direct competitor to the iPhone. More »

I rarely agree with Steve Ballmer, but his succinct (and I would have thought, salient) explanation for Google’s whirlwind rise to power is because of its efficient search engine: “The number one thing that Google benefits from in search is that they did it right, first.” More »

Today, Apple filed a massive copyright infringement lawsuit against rival smartphone manufacturer HTC and has requested that all HTC phones be pulled from sale in America. In its suit, Apple has cited almost every model that HTC makes. More »

From Htcyou: MobileSyrup has the Rogers branded unit in its hands (likely from a Best Buy employee). The mid-range Samsung Galaxy Spica should be hitting store shelves in a few weeks, but no prices have been published. Based on the Telus Motorola Milestone’s release, I would expect Rogers to sell the Galaxy Spica for well under $600, but who knows? More »

From Htcyou: The headline is Innocomm’s promise. Its upcoming Shark Android smartphone will have the performance of the Nexus One but at a much lower price when it launches in May or June. In fact, the 3.2″ LCD (800 x 480) Shark will likely be free with multi-year contract from select carriers. More »
