OK, the word “obsolete” is overused and misused (as in this headline), but “Oak Trail” is the next Intel Atom platform that will power Windows 7 and Google Android tablets and slates beginning Q1 2011. Oak Trail is more energy efficient (particularly crucial for tablets), has lower TDP, is 40% smaller, and 30% thinner than Menlow. Furthermore, Oak Trail features on-chip HD video decoding that will enable tablets to play 720p/1080p film without slowdown. More »

From Htcyou: Due to security concerns about Microsoft Windows, everyone working at Google, including the Android OS team, is now being directed towards Mac OS X or Linux. If employees wish to use Windows to their own peril, they require “CIO approval.” More »

This is the the MSI tablet that many geeks are holding their breaths for: with NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 SoC (which delivers an advertised 12-hours of battery life), the 10″ Wind Pad 110 runs Google Android 2.1 but sadly uses the same low-resolution 1024×600 capacitive touchscreen as the Wind Pad 100. From Htcyou: It looks like an Apple iPad but is a less than half the price and probably half as useful. Watch the aPad - not to be confused with the iPed that has been receiving plenty of press in Asia - a 7-inch Android 1.5 tablet with wireless and GPS in action to determine if it is worth your hundred bucks. Lenovo has seen the light. Acknowledging the strengths of Google’s open source Android OS, Lenovo is delaying the launches of its Skylight smartbook and U1 Hybrid laptop/tablet, replacing the custom Linux operating systems with (hopefully) Android 2.2 FroYo. More »

In China, the W7, which not coincidentally resembles the iPod Touch, is selling for 1,000 Yuan. The Android 1.5 multimedia slate has a 4.8″ WVGA (800×480) touchscreen and a Rockchip RK2808 CPU (600MHz ARM processor, Ceva MM-2000 DSP) that can decode high-definition video. More »

While you recover from this shocking turn of events, allow the headline to sink in. The WeTab (formerly aka WePad) is going to ship three months later than previously promised. I feel for the folks who pre-ordered it, at one point making neofonie’s tablet Amazon’s top seller. More »

From Htcyou: Canada’s biggest CDMA carrier, Telus is reportedly getting the HTC Desire, which the company has relabeled the “Triumph.” Telus’ countdown timer to a major June 8th (which is, incidentally, one day after Steve Jobs‘ expected iPhone 4G/HD keynote) “Unleashing” could very well be for what would be the nation’s best domestic Android 2.1 smartphone. Dell’s stance on the Streak is that it “is a data device first and a voice device second.” The UK will be the first nation to receive the slate Android smartphone, followed by continental Europe and then rest of the globe before the conclusion of summer. Dell is positioning the Streak to be more than a smartphone but small enough to go where the iPad cannot. Do you buy it? More »
