It seemed as if the splurge of new e-readers was coming to an end last week, but surprise, surprise, big-time techno-corp Asus has just announced the release of their own e-reader called the DR-950. How does this new e-reader stack up to the competition? Let’s find out. More »

It is pretty common knowledge that brand name computers all use parts (motherboards by Asus, hard drives by Toshiba, RAM by HNIX, etc.) not made by the company whose name is inscribed on the casing, but few people realize that all major laptops originate out of several major factories. Taiwanese companies Quanta and Compal make up more than half of all notebooks sold worldwide. Quanta Computer Inc. is the second largest manufacturer and has a client list that includes Apple, Acer, HP, Lenovo, Dell, and more. Compal Electronics Corp. surged ahead of its rival this year, reporting sales records, and also supplies wares to many of Quanta’s patrons. More »

It wasn’t that long ago that ASUS, maker of the popular EEE PC series, entered the world of media streaming with the O!Play HDP-R1 HD Media Player. But these days, gadget shelf life is getting increasingly shorter in an effort to stay ahead of the pack. So we’re on to the next one like Jay-Z. More »

Yesterday we reported ASUS was planning to release a dual-screen Eee reader by the end of this year. We have more details and it’s off the hook. Asus apparently spoke to the Sunday Times and mentioned that their eBook will have full color, dual touchscreen, speakers, a mic and a webcam. Yeah, you read right, all of those things.

All this can be had for a price point of lower than $200. Hopefully it is true, because it can sink the Kindle and change the landscape of eReaders. I wouldn’t mind having this as the alternative to my Kindle. More »

ASUS has finally dropped it, their Eee Reader and they’re bringing a lot to the table. How does a dual screen eReader with the cheapest price available sound to you? That’s what ASUS is planning to have when they release their upcoming Eee Reader. More »

After the launch of Sony’s new e-reader, it seems that everyone is jumping on the bandwagon to create their own. ASUS president Jerry Shen is the latest to announce that they will be releasing their new Eee e-book reader by the end of this year.

This is a very bad time for ASUS to try and make their mark in the e-reader industry. With Sony and Amazon colliding head on, the ASUS Eee e-reader is sure to fall in the shadows, unless it is offered at a low price tag that Sony and Amazon just can’t beat. Rumors have it that MSI is eyeing the reader market as well but it’s obvious that they would compete against ASUS, not the bigger guys. The only way that this could possibly gain some major media spotlight is if they give the e-books at a low price and/or add features that Amazon and Sony don’t offer.

Acer and Asus are the first two companies that come to mind when you think of the netbook craze but they seem to be the ones that are also putting a stop to it too. Temporarily, that is. It is rumored that Asus and Acer are putting a stop to their netbook production until the next version of Intel’s Atom processor, the N450 comes out which will most likely be included in the new netbooks in 2010. Asus keeps laying on the innovations: another interesting product they demoed at the recent CeBIT was the Eee Keyboard PC, a full-blown home theater PC equipped with a 5″ 800×480 touchscreen where the numpad is typically found. The bevy of ports found in the back show how serious Asus is at making this a true HTPC: More »

The folks over at Computer Shopper got their hands on one of the new ASUS W90Vp-X1 gaming laptops, and after putting it through some extensive test, lauds it as something of a beast. Not just in size, mind you - it’s 18.4″ and weighs in at 11.5 POUNDS (!!), after all - but with frequent usage of such PC enthusiast drool-inducing descriptors like “blistering“, More »

ASUS keeps stealing the show at this year’s CeBIT - after their AIRO “folding laptop” demonstration, they hit us again with a proof-of-concept of their new “Green” LCD monitors, which eliminates the need for a video cable - wireless! More »

ASUS turned a lot of heads at this year’s CeBIT with their new AIRO concept laptop, which has a keyboard that slides up as the laptop is being opened, to allow for components underneath to have better airflow, thereby eliminating the need for a fan and all the noise that comes with it. More »
