At the recent D9 conference in California, the President and CEO of AT&T Mobility, Ralph de la Vega brought up the topic of call drop problems in many major American cities. He, however, set it up so he could bring the T-Mobile USA merger to the table, and talk about its benefits of expanded coverage and ability to spread LTE to 97% of American in the next few years. HP’s upcoming phone, the HP Veer, is the smallest and ‘greatest’ webOS smartphone. The phone could launch sometime in early May considering the event invites HP has sent out are for May 2nd. Changes have been made to the executive ranks of AT&T and Research in Motion. AT&T confirmed the departure of CFO Rick Lindner, a 19 company vet, who will retire as of June 1st, and be replaced by Controller John Stephens. Mobile carrier AT&T has confirmed that they will support the mobile hotspot feature in iOS 4.3 as soon as it is available for the GSM version of the iPhone 4 on March 11th. This DataPro tethering plan will be available for $45 with 4GB data service. This data plan is the same one that’s required for customers to tether their iPhone to a laptop. More »


Mobile operator AT&T is now offering new monthly billing options for tablets: $15 for 250 MB, or $25 for 2 GB, both available in postpaid or prepaid options. Customers on the 2 GB postpaid plan will be charged $10 for each additional GB of overage, while those on the 2 GB prepaid plan may choose to purchase an additional 2 GB data service for $25.
