Last week London Telegraph reported that Deutsche Telekom was considering making a bid for Sprint Nextel. Sprint’s value has dwindled over the past few years with subscribers leaving in the thousands but a deal with Deutsch could bring together T-Mobile and Sprint Nextel to create the second biggest wireless carrier in the United States behind Verizon Wireless and ahead of AT&T wireless. There are some benefits if T-Mobile and Sprint Nextel were to combine but there are also some negative things to the deal as well. More »
I used to be a pretty big fan of bluetooth headsets until the higher end models started to cost as much as cell phones. But here’s a new concept that might redefine (good or bad, it’s still up in the air) the headset craze. Japan’s largest phone manufacturer, Sharp, better start looking in the rear view mirror because NEC, Hitachi and Casio are creeping up from behind. According to news out of Japan, NEC, Hitachi and Casio are all in talks to merge their cell phone business into one massive division.
The media reports out of Japan are saying NEC is hoping to join a pact already created between Casio and Hitachi. The new joint venture is a way to cut costs and will be looking to get started sometime in 2010, most likely around April. It seems like complaints from customers don’t always fall on deaf ears. Today, AT&T said they’re making changes to their voicemail feature in a response to customer complaints. The feature customers want to get rid of is the long message you get before leaving a voicemail. The campaign to complain was started by David Pogue of New York Times, two weeks ago. More »
