Gadgets are cool, but let’s face it: they’re really expensive! So what can you do if you want to be seen sporting the latest chic piece of technology? Well, if you can think of it, China more than likely has a knockoff of it. Here’s some knockoffs you might want to consider purchasing in the future…. More »

In a recent statement by Google co-founder Sergey Brin, it was said that the company remains “optimistic” in light of the recent hacking attempts at the Google network by a group from China. “I’m an optimist. I want to find a way to work within the Chinese system and provide more and better information…I think a lot of people think I’m naive, and that may be true.” More »

Relations between Google and China have recently been driven to the breaking point, with the search-engine giant threatening to close down its doors in China. In the midst of all this, it looks like a pseudo-Google (谷歌)site has arisen called Goojje (谷姐). More »

The recent cyber attack on Google seems to have launched a “freedom crusade” against the restrictive internet policies of China. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton said in a speech on Thursday that, “In an interconnected world, an attack on one nation’s networks can be an attack on all.” More »

From Htcyou: Google’s (presently in embittered political tussle with the Chinese government) decision to postpone a Motorola Android phone launch in China has spurred Motorola to reveal that it will introduce its own Android apps store for the Chinese market. Motorola is teaming up with China’s search engine leader Baidu and will start up Shop4Apps, which is set to go live before Chinese New Year (February 14th). More »

Big time corporation Google is considering shutting down its doors in China after a China-based “attack” on the Google databases. The attack was reportedly done to obtain information on the e-mail accounts of several Chinese human rights activists. This may be the straw that broke the camels back, as senior vice president of corporate development and chief legal officer for Google, David Drummond writes, More »

The Consumer Electronics Show is like a circus. Some of the stuff you could really go for, and some other stuff you could do without. I’m labeling this concept model by Chinese designer Daizi Zheng a “dud.” Here’s what Zheng had to say about his invention: More »

Nothing is more ironic than the location of the world’s largest solar powered building; China. China, being known as one of the biggest carbon emitting countries, is also home to the world’s largest solar powered building. Located in Dezhou, Shangdong Province in northwest China, the world’s largest solar powered building has an area of 75,000 square meters and sources 95% of its energy needs from its premises. It has its own 5000m2 solar panel array, solar hot water, a solar desalination plant and a solar energy theme park! More »

From Girlybubble: There’s just no escaping China. China is a force to be reckoned with and is literally, EVERYWHERE. Even my boss is Chinese. People, language, dim sum, pink digital HD camcorders — it’s like China is IN my brain waiting for the next GirlyBubble thought to be born. Looking at this super awesome pink digital HD camcorder from Chinavasion, my only thought now besides, “OMG! HAVE! WANT! NEED!” is why can’t pink be a communist color instead of red? More »
CrunchGear reports that according to a tipster, Dell’s first mobile phone The Mini 3i, will be coming to the United States. The mini 3i was originally China only, but apparently Dell wants to bring the Mini 3i stateside to compete with Android offerings from HTC, Motorola and Samsung.
The tipster also stated that the phone was “cheap and plasticky, like the Pre.” It will purportedly carry a 5 megapixel camera instead of the 3 megapixel unit found in its Chinese brother and run a modified version of Android that may not support all applications.
All this Android news these days is exciting; but will Dell actually be a serious competitor? Their last portables like the Axim PDA and the Jukebox MP3 player were utter failures. I think they need to find the spirit that makes their Mini series of netbooks so successful and build a cell phone that embodies that spirit.
While most of the world watches TV or browses the internet when they’re bored, Tao Xiangli was busy putting together a submarine. Yes, an actual submarine. The 34-year-old man from China, took two years and about $4,85 (30,000 yuan) to put together the submarine. It has propellers, runs on an electric motor and even has a periscope and a depth control tank. It’s pretty cool that everyday people are building submarines and helicopters while many around the world just sit around and do absolutely nothing. (One more pic) More »
Google is losing one of its international employees. Why is this important, you may ask? Well, it just so happens that this ‘employee’ is the Chief of Google in China. Kai-Fu-Lee, the head of Google’s operations overseas said he is leaving to form a new path in his career, which seems reasonable. Google released a statement saying that Mr. Lee, who was Vice President of Google Greater China and Vice President for engineering, would be leaving the company Mid-September of this year.
Mr. Lee is holding a conference in Beijing next Monday to announce the creation of a new venture capital firm, made to help Chinese entrepreneurs. His roles will be taken over by two current executives working for Google, Boon Lock Yeo and John Liu. Mr. Yeo works as a director of Google’s Shanghai engineering office and Mr. Liu who is currently vice president of sales and operations. Mr. Lee came to Google after leaving Microsoft, who sued Google, claiming that Mr. Lee had a previous agreement that said that he could not work with competitors. More »
China will be finally getting the iPhone this year after long and lengthy negotiations with two Chinese mobile carriers that spanned almost two years. The deal is a three-year deal that will bring the iPhone to China sometime later this year through China Unicorn, the second largest wireless carrier in China.
China was supposed to get the iPhone through China Mobile, the world’s largest wireless carrier with over 687 million wireless customers, but China Mobile balked at the revenue share model originally proposed by Apple. It broke down again over operation and control of the App Store after the introduction of the 3G iPhone. China Unicorn jumped in earlier this year and finally cut a deal with Apple. But is it all going to be worth it for Apple, considering China already has the iPhone in gray markets and not to mention the iPhone clones? More »
China will finally be getting an iPhone soon but without one of the biggest features, Wi-Fi capability. Why? None other than the great Chinese government, which wants a ban on Wi-Fi networks because they can and don’t want their citizens to get access to internet in shady little places across the nation. Been holding off on buying a Blu-ray player because of the outrageous prices? When they were first released, the only “affordable” player was the PlayStation 3 at around $500, but prices on players have steadily been coming down the past few years, finally crossing $200 this past holiday season.
