Yesterday, the DSi XL was launched to the delight of Pokemon loving lads all across the land. iFixit was glad to tear apart Nintendo’s new handheld and provide photographic evidence of its exploits. More »


Nintendo will be replacing the amazingly popular DS with a new system temporarily called the 3DS, which will allow gamers to enjoy “3D effects without the need for any special glasses.” The 3DS is scheduled for release on or before March 2011 and will be demoed at E3 in June. More »


Legendary Shigeru Miyamoto says that he is devoting lots of energy into educational efforts for the Nintendo DS. Some Japanese students already use the handheld gaming system for learning (pictured above) in the classroom. When the new school year begins, Nintendo will introduce elementary and junior high schools to the DS as an educational tool, although exactly how this process will be implemented has not been documented to the public. Nintendo has declared that its new DSi XL, which will debut on March 28th for $190, is also an e-reader. Apple’s iPad and iPod Touch/iPhone are breaking into the Japanese gaming corporation’s territory; the DSi XL is return fire that will a title called “100 Classic Books,” which includes works from Shakespeare and Twain.
