Not only have eReaders leading to the downfall of books, but now they’re taking it to another level. The latest eReader, the Alex, created by Spring Design, is a dual e-reader and tablet, something the designers are calling a Duet Navigator. The bottom of the device sports a 3.5 inch LCD screen to display bright pictures and the top holds a 6 inch electronic paper screen to display e-ink pages, for longer reading periods.
The ereader runs Google Android and gives the user the option of viewing web pages through WiFi or 3G. This eReader is great for users who want to be able to access the books on the go for heavier reading, but don’t want to give up the web browsing experience. More »

Google is continuing their attack in the ebook market, this time partnering with COOLERBOOKS, the online ebook store from British company, Interead, to provide . If the name Cooler sounds familiar, it’s probably because you’ve heard the name COOL-ER eReaders.
They were one of the hot items this year, the ones that were designed to look like iPods and retailed for $250 in the states. Interead is the company behind COOL-ER eReaders and now has Google providing over 1 million ebooks to the British company.
This will mark the first time Google has served ebooks to a company outside of the U.S. Google had previously partnered with Sony to provide over one million ebooks in their online ebook store. Sony released their latest answer to Amazon’s Kindle last week, The Daily Edition, offering wireless 3G service, wireless syncing and a 7-inch touch screen - which the Kindle lacks. But it still might not be enough to trump Amazon’s highly popular Kindle device. And here’s why.
Let’s use Apple’s iPod as an example. The iPod has now become synonymous with music and Mp3 players around the world. No matter who you ask, almost everyone knows what an iPod is over a Zune or any other Mp3 player from well known brands. Apple took the features already in place, put it in a nice package and called it something that rolls off the tongue easier than, let’s a Samsung CXS-101 (made up name). It’s so easy and well known now, my parents, both of who don’t know anything about gadgets, don’t own a computer or music player, know what an iPod is. They constantly tell my siblings to stop listening to their iPods at home. Imagine my mom having to tell my brother, “stop listening to that Samsung CXS.” Doesn’t sound like it rolls of your tongue now does it? I don’t think so. In terms of name recognition, you don’t get any better than the iPod. More »
After the launch of Sony’s new e-reader, it seems that everyone is jumping on the bandwagon to create their own. ASUS president Jerry Shen is the latest to announce that they will be releasing their new Eee e-book reader by the end of this year.
This is a very bad time for ASUS to try and make their mark in the e-reader industry. With Sony and Amazon colliding head on, the ASUS Eee e-reader is sure to fall in the shadows, unless it is offered at a low price tag that Sony and Amazon just can’t beat. Rumors have it that MSI is eyeing the reader market as well but it’s obvious that they would compete against ASUS, not the bigger guys. The only way that this could possibly gain some major media spotlight is if they give the e-books at a low price and/or add features that Amazon and Sony don’t offer.
