Last week Motorola introduced their new social networking phone with a new software to take advantage of all its functionalities. Motorola is hoping the new phone, the Cliq (maybe going after a cliquey social networking crowd?) will be the beginning to their resurgence to the top. Motorola has fallen from the top as the number one and they need something big. But the Cliq isn’t the only thing that’s new on Motorola’s end, they also have a new software called Blur. More »

Using Twitter and Facebook to alert everyone of everything you are doing is not only annoying but dangerous. Those who tend to constantly write what they are up to are easier to track, therefore, letting burglars know when you’ll be out or away. Duh right? Except some folks don’t get it.

A survey conducted by British-based Legal & General on 2,092 social media users showed that almost four in ten (38%) of people using social networking sites post details on holiday plans and 33 percent put details about a weekend away from home. It was also found that a lot of social network users don’t really know their “friends”. More »

Samsung has finally brought full touch screen on their phones and they are more colorful than ever. Samsung’s new ‘Corby’ phone is focusing mainly on social networking like INQ phones, except the Corby has Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter. To make the phones appeal to the younger crowd, Samsung has designed them with very vibrant colors.

Some of the basic colors are Jamaican Yellow, Cupid Pink, Minimal White, and Festival Orange. The more important features are the 2.8 inch QVGA screen and the support for EDGE and Quad- band networks. The Corby will be arriving to many cities in Europe in the middle of September. It will cost about 150 Euros which is roughly $215 USD. Hopefully, the kids or the parents are willing to dish out that much for a social networking phone, if not Samsung may have to take their phone elsewhere. More »

The economy may have hit some companies hard, but that’s good news for Facebook because they can hire a slew of new employees for cheap. Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO, says they’re looking increase their staff by 50% and this is a great time to do so, “No one else has been hiring. It’s been a great environment for us because the economy has helped out.”

Even though he’s announced they’re looking to increase their staff, he said they’ll do so slowly, unlike other high profile companies like Google, which doubled its staff after going public in 2005. Zuckerberg also hasn’t said anything about costs or spending in the upcoming year.

Facebook currently has over 1,000 employees and over $716 million in funding, even after acquiring some companies over the past year, most recently FriendFeed for $47.5 million. More »

When Russian investment group, Digital Sky Technologies, decided to purchase a $100 million of common stock from former and current Facebook employees, no one thought it would cause the frenzy that it has. The program, introduced on July 13th, gave current and former employees and others who held Facebook stock, the option to sell up to 25% or $1 million of their stock to DST.

The offer to sell stock options, was given to current employees first, followed by former employees. Many employees took the offer and sold a portion of their stock. While some would argue that cashing in stock options were premature, even calling the employees mercenaries, I think these employees did the right thing and here’s 4 reasons why. More »

Twitter and Facebook have become such a valuable tool for many. The need for news on the go and the ability to share that news with friends and others, have made Twitter and Facebook the go to social networking sites. After Marines, posted in Afghanistan started to use Facebook to give insight into their war experiences, it took on a whole new meaning. People were able to experience a small piece of the war, where as before soldiers had limited communications with friends and loved ones. Law enforcement officers here in the states want to be able to do something similar; make it easier to understand the people, interact with them and get help in catching criminals.

The Police Department of Pineville, Louisiana have opened up Facebook and Twitter accounts to want to connect with their residents. The department is hoping to use the social networking sites to let people know about the latest accidents, closures, even information about a suspect. While I think this is a great way to interact with the public, cops shouldn’t think this is a way to solve all the problems in a community. More »

Friday night, during Conan O’Brien’s monologue, he referred to Facebook as “Facebox” when making a joke about Twitter and Facebook being shut down by hackers. Surprisingly his audience kept clapping, happy he made that mistake. Conan wasn’t aware of his mistake until his announcer and friend Andy Richter pointed it out by saying “you did it again.” Conan corrected himself but continued to make fun of his blunder. More »

Yesterday’s Twitter crash was a blessing in disguise for many. As much as we need some of these services for business or to keep up with friends and family, they’ve also taken over our lives. Sometimes we need to take a break away from them. Yesterday’s outage was a chance to get away from the computer screen and take a break. More »

The dudes from Entourage were wrong about Facebook. A few days ago we wrote a post about the two characters from Entourage bashing Facebook, saying it’s for kids. A new study from Ofcom, a media regulator, says kids aged 15 to 24 think social networking sites are lame. What’s causing this trend? Well it’s the older crowd, the 25-years and older, that’s pushing the younger kids away from social networking sites. More »

Whenever I log into my Facebook account, I find myself leaving within a few seconds. Something about the site just doesn’t appeal to me anymore. It probably has something to do with the fact that I’m no longer in college and keeping up with my friend’s drunken escapades are no longer a priority, nor do I care about that hot girl from one of my history classes freshmen or what the heck she does. So, what I to do to keep up with my friends when I need to find out what they’re doing or updates on their daily concerns/issues? I turn to Twitter. More »

A few days ago, we reported that Bill Gates had trouble using Facebook and ended up closing his account. Gates said he was getting too many friend requests, over ten thousand , and was overwhelmed by it. But unlike Gates, Martha Stewart decided to do a little Facebook bashing, saying “I don’t have to “befriend” and do all that other dippy stuff that they do on Facebook.”

Looks like alliances are being made with social networking sites. More »

We have another Facebook story, this time from Neowin. Apparently Bill Gates signed up for a Facebook and had to shut it down because he received over 10,000 friend requests. I mean who doesn’t want one of the richest guys in the world to be their friend. More »

Two weeks ago, I changed my Facebook name from the long URL to a much simpler, KashemMiah. But I wanted to change it again, nothing crazy, just to Kashem. I logged into Facebook to see if there was a way to change it, and guess what? Facebook is allowing people to change it one more time. More »
