Not only is Sin City forever known to me as a place most sacred in my heart of hearts, it’s also the home of the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show. CES, for short. Set to happen Jan 7-10, this year’s CES show is boasting a record number of tech exhibitors: 2,500 exhibitors showcasing all their latest wares for 2010! Makes me wonder — is three days even enough? Is it possible to visit every exhibitor? More »

I’m not much of a gambler. When I’m in Atlantic City the most I play are the slot machines, and the penny ones at that and that’s only so I can score free drinks. However, I’ve always wanted to try my luck at the blackjack tables with the more sophisticated gamblers. 2010 might find me posted up at a table if it looks like this. More »

Today is the official day of the PSP Go release. It wasn’t hard to tell, Sony has been airing commercials about the new portable gaming system for the past few days and there ads posted on bus stops and train stations across NYC.

I owned a PSP a few years ago and can’t see myself owning a PSP Go. The price is too expensive ($250) for an all digital portal gaming system (just think the PS3 Slim is only $300). But there are those out there that will buy it and will enjoy it. I’m just not going to be one of those people.

Are you going to buy the PSP GO? Do you think it’s too expensive for an all digital portable system or is it the right price compared to other all digital gadgets?

Square Enix company head, Yoichi Wada believes that both Sony and Microsoft are not as successful as the Wii since both game systems extend their features at a reasonable pace instead of going all out on one device. Wada also believes both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 have similar games and could get up to the level of the Wii if they produce more interesting and interactive games, although motion control games are very hard to design.

The Wii still has a lot more room for improvement and in a few years, it should reach its perfection with wireless commands. This is what is holding back the Wii from taking control of the gaming market, and the fact that it is not yet offered in HD. When the Nintendo Wii gets HD and hits the level of the PS3 and Xbox 360, then you can truly compare the three. Until then, Yoichi Wada’s comment doesn’t really matter when comparing the three consoles.

There are reports today that the Nintendo might be releasing an HD version of their popular Wii gaming console by 2011. While HD is the next generation of gaming and video content, the Wii has been the best selling console in the last two years without HD capability. The news comes from Yoichi Wada, president of Square Enix, Japan’s biggest gaming house. An HD Wii is inevitable but is 2011 too early? Sales of the Wii suggest that gamers are not looking for an HD version of the gaming console just yet. Nintendo, like most gaming companies, can go through the cycle of releasing new colors, add-ons and lowering prices to stay ahead in console sales.

If the HD version were to be released in 2011, I’d be all for it. One of the reasons for it is because many of the games on the Wii can’t be enjoyed in standard definition. Imagine playing Halo 3 in standard definition, or playing Madden 2010 on the Wii. What’s the point of buying the 2010 version on the Wii, just play any generic football game. The benefit of playing many of these games is to take advantage of the high definition capability, anything less would be pointless. More »

Sony and Microsoft had their mini, price cut war last week. Both cut the prices on their primary machines by a $100. Microsoft lowered their Xbox 360 Elite to $299, while Sony went ahead and cut the price on their current PS3 to $299 but also introduced the PS3 Slim for $299. If I had to choose, I’d go with the Sony PS3 Slim but there are hard core Xbox 360 fans, who are loving this price cut.

Are you more likely to buy a Xbox 360 or PS3 because of the price cut? If so, which console would you opt for?

Computer gamers are going to rejoice when they find out that the new Razer Naga MMO gaming mouse is out.The Razer Naga’s interface allows the user to program the mouse to the game they are playing and to set the commands on the buttons they use most. It has a 12 button thumb grid and it allows the user to take advantage of the free space and modifier keys.

The Razer’s add-on software allow the user to save multiple amounts of data for each character in their games and to set specific commands for each one. By looking at it, it’s a thing of beauty for gamers. I’m not a hard core gamer but if I was, I’d own of those. No word on price or availability yet. More »

In some very surprising news, a new study shows that the average age of gamers in the United States is 35! Not only that but they’re also overweight and depressed. The survey was conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Emory University and Andrews University with 552 adults ranging in age from 19-90. The overweight and depression are common results of gaming but the average age is what’s shocking. Never could I have ever pictured gamers older than 25 years old.

Gaming has always been linked with people who are anti-social, thus locking themselves in their rooms and playing games all day without any outside interaction or physical activity. Although this isn’t the case for everyone, only 1 out of my 10 friends is overweight and a gamer, I’m not surprised by the findings. I’m still trying to figure out how the average age of gamers is in the mid 30’s.

Does this news surprise you? What did you think was the average age of gamers?
