Search-engine giant, Google, launched their pilot chatting/conference system called “Google Wave” a couple months ago. Since then, it has received mixed reviews. Some people complain about the complicated features, and others complained about it being too “real time.” More »

Many observers like to philosophize deeply about issues that generally can be answered with the simplest explanation. I rarely agree with Steve Ballmer, but his succinct (and I would have thought, salient) explanation for Google’s whirlwind rise to power is because of its efficient search engine: “The number one thing that Google benefits from in search is that they did it right, first.” More »

Today, Apple filed a massive copyright infringement lawsuit against rival smartphone manufacturer HTC and has requested that all HTC phones be pulled from sale in America. In its suit, Apple has cited almost every model that HTC makes. More »

According to a survey by Morgan Stanley in 2008, the unit’s cost, service plan cost, upfront payment, and contract length were the top four largest barriers for consumers when considering an Apple iPhone. A Morgan Stanley analyst expects Apple to unveil new, less expensive iPhones in June. More »

From Htcyou: Adobe’s MWC appearance revealed something big: only smartphones with ARM Cortex-A8 or faster processors will run Flash 10.1 properly. Also, 50Mb of free RAM is required, but all current Android devices have this covered; unfortunately, in North America, only the Nexus One and Motorola Droid have the CPU requirements, so this means that the HTC Magic (myTouch), Dream (G1), Hero, Motorola CLIQ, and other top selling Android phones will not be supported. Back in 2006, a video was uploaded to Google Video that depicted several school kids harassing and bullying an autistic classmate. Hours later, the Italian police notified Google of this video, and the search-engine giant immediately took it down. Google then worked with the Italian police to find out who uploaded the video, and that person and several other classmates involved were sentenced to ten months of community service. The story, however, does not end there. More »

A few weeks ago, Google held the 2010 EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) Faculty Summit in Zurich, where elite academics gather for “technical presentations, discussions and networking sessions, all targeted at strengthening partnerships with EMEA’s foremost computer science thinkers.” If you have no idea what this vague statement actually means, you are not alone. DisplayMate president Dr. Raymond M. Soneira has conducted a scientific experiment in which he claims that Apple’s iPhone 3G-S LCD is better than the much touted AMOLED display on Google’s Nexus One. OLED is inherently a far superior technology than LCD, but execution is crucial. Just because one form of technology is more advanced, it does not mean that everything that uses it will exceed the performance of an inferior approach. For example, not every rear-wheel-drive car will out-handle every front-wheel-drive auto. More »

From Htcyou: Google has finally released Google Earth for Android 2.1 phones, of which there is only one at the moment. The 22Mb application runs very smoothly on the Nexus One and looks nearly as good as its computer counterpart. More »

From Htcyou: After a lackluster start to the new year, HTC is hoping that a robust Q2 will propel the company to a resurgent finish to 2010. HTC had expected Q1 revenues to be lower than the previous quarter, but with the eagerly anticipated releases of the Desire, the Legend, and other unconfirmed Android smartphones in the spring and down the line, business should be bustling from here onwards. Google Voice is a newly released product by the search-engine giant that allows you to do all sorts of things that you couldn’t do with a traditional phone. The problem is, though, that many are intimidated by these features and are unsure about how to use them. From Htcyou: The programming geniuses over at OpenEclair have come a long way since the first version of its open source Eclair 2.1 ROM was released on January 28th. Now in build 1.2.2, OpenEclair is generally regarded as the best, fastest (and certainly the most promising) Android 2.1 ROM for the HTC Magic and Dream (myTouch 3G and G1 respectively). Check out the videos below to see how well the ROM runs on a Dream (G1). More »
