As part of the 21st century, I’m sure most, if not all of you will know what a HDD is. Well if you happen to one a HDD (or in my case, many) you should know that Western Digital, better known as WD and Seagate are the two big firms that are on the HDD market. Well one of these giants, WD, has announced that due to the flooding in Thailand, the production of its HDDs have been affected.

WD has announced that because of the floods, the production of HDDs for both external and internal storage has been impacted. Therefore, a shortage of these parts and HDDs may occur.

WD is currently working with their suppliers to maximize the availability to be meet the customers’ demands. WD has noted that there were 54 million HDDs shipped from facilities located in Thailand and Malaysia as of last quarter. They have reported that Thailand contributes to 60% of these numbers. So this flood as really hit WD hard.

Luckily, the facilities in Thailand are safe from the flood and still operable but the problem is that the flood has damaged both transport and housing of its workers. So WD has decided to suspend production to protect their workers.

WD has promised to give regular updates on this issue. Seems like a pretty bad issue. And I was trying to buy a new HDD, better buy it soon!
