One would think that in this sluggish economy, premium computer makers like Apple would languish, yet Jobs’ company posted its record best year. Not only did Apple gain market share in the under $1,000 PC price range, consumers who bought a computer over $1,000 overwhelmingly chose a Mac. With the iPad, in 2010, Apple is attempting to cut into the sub-$500 sector too. More »

Contrary to the TV advertisements, your Mac was just a plain Mac and not really a PC after all, at least not a Windows 7 PC, until Tuesday when Apple officially made Bootcamp 3.1 available for download. Nearly all Intel Macs are now capable of running 32-bit or 64-bit versions of Windows 7. The former is a 381Mb package, while the latter is 275Mb. I choose 64-bit. More »

Ever since our family purchased our first personal computer in 1997, I have been building my own tower machines. During the past twelve years, around 8 custom-built PCs (and countless laptops, as well as Mac desktops like iMacs and Cubes!) have made their ways into our household. I have never purchased a brand name PC and likely never will. Most PC gamers and heavy number crunching users also choose to build their own machines because they can select the best parts at the best prices and not have to pay for extras that they do not need. I liken custom building PCs to a buffet: get what you want and only what you want. More »

Yesterday, Apple released some new products and updates to their iMac, Mac Mini and Macbook line, without much fanfare. Insiders in the tech world knew something was brewing but it wasn’t hyped up like normal Apple events. The one product that stood out to me most, was the iMac. It’s a slimmer, more powerful iMac, one that now resembles a television. When I saw the pictures of the new design, I started to chuckle to myself because a few months ago, my brother, who is an avid tech/gadget follower, said to me “watch Apple come out with a TV in the future. It’s just a matter of time.” Little did I know he may have been on to something.

What this new iMac does is put Apple in a very interesting position, one that may see Apple enter the television market in a way no one has really implemented. Yes, there have been televisions with widgets (Vizio), and the ability to connect to the internet, but Apple could create something more, and maybe even better. Here’s how: More »

Looks like Apple has come out with new products today, a slew of refreshes starting with the iMac. There’s also a new redesigned Macbook plastic, an updated Mac Mini, the new Magic Mouse, and a remote that looks like the unibody Macbook Pro. Check out pics and specs after the break. More »

There have been some rumors going around that Apple may be introducing some new products today. Looks like it’ll happen as Apple stores here in the U.S. is down for updates. This usually means one thing, new products are coming out soon. Here are some of the rumored products: More »

Apple Q4 results have arrived and once again it’s a very good one for Apple! Quarter 4 ended today and Apple received some great results. Apple posted a revenue of $9.87 Billion and a quarterly profit of $1.67 billion, pushing each Apple share up to $1.82, which analysts did not expect. This quarter, Apple sold 3.05 million Macs, 17 percent higher than what they sold last year and 7.4 million iPhones, up 7 percent from last year.

According to CEO Steve Jobs, this is a record sales number for Apple. Every year, Apple’s record number of sales seem to be growing, pushing further each year. In Quarter 3, Apple sold 5.2 million iPhones which was a 626% jump from the previous year. This quarter shows a record amount of growth, which can only mean that Apple is looking ahead to great sales figures in the near future. More »

Macs are great in many ways They’re built on a solid UNIX foundation, they run amazing applications, and it can run Windows. No wonder 12% of households in the US own a Mac. Last year, NPD group reported that only 9% of the households in America own a Mac. From then until now, that number has shot up to 12% and still rising.

That is an amazing figure if you think of the sales since the last quarter which have increased drastically. Unfortunately, with the good news comes some bad, 85% of households with a Mac also own a Windows based PC. Now, this isn’t a concern for Apple unless Windows based PC sales begin to skyrocket and that doesn’t seem likely with their lack of innovation although Windows 7 could change that. More »

Rumors are continuing to swirl about a possible iMac refresh but now the Mac Mini is also being included in those rumors. This comes after Apple has told their sales partners not to expect new shipments of the iMac and Mac Mini. That usually means there’s an update coming soon. There were already rumors going around about an iMac refresh and a Macbook plastic refresh, but the Mac Mini is definitely in need of an update, since it’s pretty much had the same design for over 3 years. The last update, in March, just wasn’t enough to make it a worthy purchase for $599. More »

Here’s some Apple news for the day, (you know we need our daily dose), there seems to be a rumor going around that Apple will be refreshing the iMac. Previous rumors suggested there will be a Macbook and iMac refresh but today’s buzz seems to be about the iMac.

I’d be seriously disappointed if there’s a complete redesign of the iMac because I bought last year’s refresh a few months ago, hoping Apple wouldn’t refresh the iMac so quickly. I guess I should have waited. Hopefully the updates are just modest updates with nothing major. I’m hoping for that but doubt it’ll be true. More »

It seems like there are Apple rumors everyday now. Here’s the latest one: iMacs and Macbooks are going to be updated within weeks. Research firm Wedge Partners made the claim in the Tech Trader Daily column. The refresh is supposed to combat Windows 7 and netbooks by lowering prices on the Mac line of computers. More »
