We all knew that this was eventually going to happen. With the advent of the internet, websites and, ultimately, news sites, the inevitable decline in newspaper sales and other paper news mediums began. It’s only now, however, that internet news is overtaking traditional paper news in popularity. More »
Studies show that if your child watches a lot of TV at a very young age, he or she will be more prone to using the Internet. In general, younger kids have been using all sorts of digital devices more and more starting from a very early age. For most children, it’s usually just TV and cell phones. Especially for kids between the ages of 1 and 5. It’s scary how high the bar graph is. More »

The government spends millions of dollars yearly on school improvements and technology, and this is just another one of them. With $9 million of support, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced 20 pilot programs that are to receive government funding to pay for “wireless broadband connections for laptops, smart phones and other mobile devices, which students will be able to take with them after the school day ends.” More »

When a guy and a girl breakup, you know that someone always gets hurt. Well, in this case, the one that got hurt was one Jack Weppler. He is currently feeling the wrath of his humorously wrathful ex-girlfriend who turned a picture of him into an internet meme. More »

During one of the most violent and controversial elections in Iran, the world saw the atrocities occurring to revolutionaries via technology and the internet, through mediums such as Twitter, Facebook and mobile text messaging. The recent uprising in Tunisia? Also shown to the world through the eyes of the Tweeting bird and the feeds of Facebook. Well, trouble seems to be brewing in Egypt, and in an extreme attempt to avoid such transmission of information, the government has apparently cut off its internet and mobile services to citizens! Porn. We all know it’s out there, and we all know that it can sometimes be a problem, especially for those curious youngsters embarking on their digital journeys. Well, it looks like a group of conservative British politicians are going to be doing something about it by proposing landmark legislation that would require pornography to be an “opt-in” Internet service. Media usage has increased- we’re all aware of that. However, the real question is, by how much? Well, according to eMarketer’s estimates, in 2010, the amount of time we spend on our mobiles is equal to the amount of time we spend reading both print newspapers and magazines. Internet usage has grown by 6% which means an average American adult spends about two and a half hours surfing the net. More »

British researchers say that technology, especially those that allow Internet access, makes you happier. According to the study, it improves a person’s sense of well being and satisfaction with their family life, social life, job, etc. This report claims the complete opposite of what was previously assumed: that people use the internet in depression and that constant internet use has negative effects like isolation and obesity. Instead, technology “helps to empower people and thus gives them a sense of freedom and being in control.” More »

Admittedly, I’m one of the most addicted people I know to the Internet. I’m one of those typical teenagers who can spend hours at a time on it without a thought. Of course I have thought about trying to combat this addiction, but I have never, like this man, ever thought about living in the bathroom for five days to fight off my addiction. More »

I don’t know how many times I wish I had a faster Internet connection. Luckily for those people in Chattanooga, Tennessee they don’t have that problem since they have the fasteset Internet connection in the United States. The mayor and power company in Chattanooga, while upgrading the city’s power grid, decided to also upgrade the speed of the networks infrastructure. I would say they were successful with this since they were able to give 100,000 homes 1Gbps Internet speed. More »

There’s no doubt that the Internet is one of history’s greatest inventions yet. It is a daily need for people of the world today and provides us with information at the tip of our fingers with just a few simple clicks. Where would we be without the Internet? For a confessed addict like me, that doesn’t bear thinking about. From J.C. R. Licklider’s “intergalatic network” to the first spam mail to Wikipedia’s launch, let’s reminisce the development of this impressive creation over an infograph created by Jason Powers. More »

Back in the ’90s, controlling television meant ruling the world. Google owns the internet, so branching out to TV is logical. Google TV works with existing cable networks by way of Google TV televisions (Sony has signed on), Logitech’s Google TV Companion Box, and even Blu-Ray players. More »

This photo does not do Apple justice because only two of the twelve “iPad-ready” websites are shown. You see, the iPad includes iPhone OS Safari, which supports “the latest web standards” like “HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.” Too bad for the iPad that there are hundreds of millions of computers in the world that are 99.99% internet-ready and also feature Safari, the full version.
