The government spends millions of dollars yearly on school improvements and technology, and this is just another one of them. With $9 million of support, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced 20 pilot programs that are to receive government funding to pay for “wireless broadband connections for laptops, smart phones and other mobile devices, which students will be able to take with them after the school day ends.” More »

During one of the most violent and controversial elections in Iran, the world saw the atrocities occurring to revolutionaries via technology and the internet, through mediums such as Twitter, Facebook and mobile text messaging. Well, according to eMarketer’s estimates, in 2010, the amount of time we spend on our mobiles is equal to the amount of time we spend reading both print newspapers and magazines. British researchers say that technology, especially those that allow Internet access, makes you happier. According to the study, it improves a person’s sense of well being and satisfaction with their family life, social life, job, etc. This report claims the complete opposite of what was previously assumed: that people use the internet in depression and that constant internet use has negative effects like isolation and obesity. Instead, technology “helps to empower people and thus gives them a sense of freedom and being in control.” More »

Admittedly, I’m one of the most addicted people I know to the Internet. I’m one of those typical teenagers who can spend hours at a time on it without a thought. I don’t know how many times I wish I had a faster Internet connection. Luckily for those people in Chattanooga, Tennessee they don’t have that problem since they have the fasteset Internet connection in the United States. The mayor and power company in Chattanooga, while upgrading the city’s power grid,decided to also upgrade the speed of the networks infrastructure. I would say they were successful with this since they were able to give 100,000 homes 1Gbps Internet speed. More »

Back in the ’90s, controlling television meant ruling the world. Google owns the internet, so branching out to TV is logical. Google TV works with existing cable networks by way of Google TV televisions (Sony has signed on), Logitech’s Google TV Companion Box, and even Blu-Ray players. More »

ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) had been approved for .xxx domains back in 2005, but after protests mostly from the States, the plan was scrapped. However, on March 12th, ICANN members will convene in Nairobi to retry negotiations, which, if successful could mean .xxx domains will be on sale by the end of this year. More »

Viacom has announced that they will officially be pulling Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report” from Hulu. As of March 9th, these shows will no longer be available for viewing on Hulu. Never fear, though, as they will still be available for viewing on the respective show websites. More »
