Legendary Shigeru Miyamoto says that he is devoting lots of energy into educational efforts for the Nintendo DS. Some Japanese students already use the handheld gaming system for learning (pictured above) in the classroom. When the new school year begins, Nintendo will introduce elementary and junior high schools to the DS as an educational tool, although exactly how this process will be implemented has not been documented to the public. I feel for Jon Rubinstein. His company was the pioneer of the smartphone forerunner, the PDA (although Apple’s Newton started it all). In the late 1990s, Palm was an enviable company, but its failure to transition (successfully) its products to the smartphone market has doomed the once glorious creator of numerous beloved PDAs. Thus declares InfoWorld, and it is a challenge to refute one of the objections raised by writer Galen Gruman, though I would argue that people who tend to pre-order products sight unseen are generally (and in the iPad’s case), not fools, but just impatient and love to consume. More »

Microsoft’s Mix10 conference confirms many crucial things about the company’s agenda: it is turning into Apple but is late to the game. Droves of smartphone zealots are excited about Windows Phone 7’s prospects, yet much of what Microsoft is doing already exists, and worst of all, quite a few of the complaints about Apple’s iPhone will not be addressed by WP7. Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 presentation today unveiled nothing that has not been widely rumored for months: there will be no multitasking; Microsoft’s Marketplace store is the only way to obtain WM7 apps; HTC HD2 will not be upgraded to WM7. In a nutshell, Microsoft is following the strictly isolationist iPhone instead of open source Android (surprise!). In more cheerful news, Samsung, Asus, and LG all demoed WM7 devices. More »

A survey by Crowd Science indicates that an alarming number of Blackberry owners “definitely or probably would” switch over to iPhone or Android when they make their next purchases. More »

Even Bill Gates has, on numerous occasions, expressed admiration of the iPhone, although he forbids himself and his family from owning Apple products (those poor souls). Steve Ballmer uses Windows Mobile smartphones, but many of his employees secretly cherish their iPhones. More »

…because, as Steve Jobs has discovered, they will become your bitterest enemies. In case you did not know, Eric Schmidt was on Apple’s board of directors until August 2009, even though he has been Google CEO since 2001. There was clearly a conflict of interests, as proven by Google’s release of Android OS, which is a direct competitor to the iPhone. More »

Did you hear the collective gasps of fanboys everywhere? Apple’s online store is down! What could this mean? Are there new quad-core MacBook Pro models? The rumored Mac Mini with HDMI? Maybe something completely magical that no one else has even dared to dream of before? More »

A £1,930,000 phone should be able to print money, do your laundry, and chauffeur you around. Stuart Hughes’ Iphone 3GS SUPREME Rose does nothing that a regular iPhone 3GS cannot do, but at $3 million dollars, it proves that its owner is filthily rich. More »

Designer Amosu’s limited edition (3 total) Curva Blackberry is enclosed in solid gold, has 4,459 diamonds at 28.43 carats, and lists for £125,000. More »

I am sure that you have seen counterfeit Apple iPhones (and iPods) floating about on Craigslist, eBay, and perhaps even on the streets, depending on where you live. All of these fakes originate from China or Taiwan, and it is no wonder since copyright laws are nearly impossible to enforce in these nations. Also, since the iPhone uses mostly Taiwanese parts, assembling a knock-off in that very place is an easy job for crooks. More »

Smartphones are taking over our lives, so which models do the rich and famous use? Blackberrys are most popular for texting aficionados, including skanks and the leader of the free world. Other moguls like Warren Buffett reportedly do not even possess cell phones. More »

If you have ever wanted to project your iPhone/iPod videos/pictures onto a screen or a wall, Mili has the solution, but this not cheap merchandise. Mili’s projector is £229/$399 and claims to have good image quality. More »

New Potato Technologies has an add-on accessory that many iPhone/iPod Touch owners have been requesting. The FLPR universal remote control might spell the end of all your other remotes. More »
