After much controversy, the Opera Mini mobile web browser has been approved and will be released on the App Store. In the past, apps have been rejected for sharing the same functionality as Apple-built apps.

In this case, Opera Mini is a direct competitor to Safari, the default web browser on the iPhone. Many users thought that it would never be approved but 19 days after it was submitted, it was finally authorised. More »

Having root access to the firmware enables programmers to tweak and modify the iPhone operating system, something that Apple does not want.
