Shortly after Monday morning’s WWDC iPhone 4 keynote, Apple made the Gold Master build of iOS 4 available for developers. There are now “pirated” copies of the operating system for non-developers on Usenet and Torrent. Not surprisingly, within a single day, Apple’s iPad has been jailbroken, not by Geohot this time, but courtesy of the other known iPhone hacker MuscleNerd, who has rooted the iPad. Having root access to the firmware enables programmers to tweak and modify the iPhone operating system, something that Apple does not want.
