Apple has recently expanded its patent complaint against Korean company Samsung by adding even more products and IP rights. More »
Apple has reportedly sued Fei Lam, a teenage boy from Queens, New York, who made $130,000 selling white iPhone 4 ‘conversion kits‘ before the actual device was launched. He sold the conversion kits at up to $295 a piece through the site whiteiphone4now.com to those who were eager for the device, including Apple’s co-founder Steve Wozniak. More »
Former Lucasfilm software engineer Siddharth Hariharan and his former colleagues have recently filed a lawsuit claiming that a variety of leading technology companies have set pay caps and agreed to not recruit each other’s employees. Those companies include Adobe, Apple, Google, Lucasfilm, Intel, Intuit Inc. and Pixar studios. More »

Following Apple’s recent lawsuit against Samsung claiming that several of the brand’s devices were too similar to the iPhone and iPad, it seems like Samsung is intending to launch a counter-suit against Apple for infringement on some of its patents. More »

Apple has recently sued Samsung for allegedly copying the feel of Apple’s devices from products such as the Galaxy S, Nexus S and Epic 4G smartphone, as well as the Galaxy Tab touchscreen tablet. More »

In a live interview at D8 with Walt Mossberg, Steve Jobs had some juicy things to say about the whole Gizmodo/Brian J Hogan/Jason Chen iPhone 4G/HD prototype scandal. Initially, Jobs said that the affair was an “ongoing investigation,” but he went on to tell his side of the story, which he called “amazing.” More »

From Htcyou: Who did not see this coming? In an industry rife with court battles, no one should be shocked to hear that HTC, which was sued by Apple in March, countered with a lawsuit of its own yesterday, naming 5 specific patent violations. HTC has requested that there be an embargo imposed on all importation of iPod, iPad, and iPhone devices, which are manufactured in Asia. More »

Well, at least Gizmodo’s $5,000 payment for the stolen iPhone prototype captured over 4.2 million visits to the page. I hope that Gizmodo got its money’s worth and enjoyed its fame because Apple has grounds to sue the blog for purchasing stolen merchandise. Writer Jason Chen professes innocence and says that they did not know the prototype had been stolen (yeah right!), yet the law does not require buyers to be aware of a commodity’s legality. Gizmodo is also in danger of facing California’s Uniform Trade Secrets Act. More »

From Htcyou: In my estimation, some of Apple’s copyright infringement complaints against HTC can apply equally to other Android smartphone manufacturers like Motorola and Samsung, yet HTC was targeted because of the company’s strong US rise and dissociation with Apple. Samsung makes Apple’s “A4” and iPhone ARM processors and will be the primary LCD source for the iPad; obviously, Apple does not want to sue a valuable supplier. HTC has nothing to do with Apple and is enjoying greater growth in the States than any other smartphone maker. Is Apple threatened? Of course. More »

From Htcyou: Apple’s damning copyright infringement lawsuit against HTC has had no effect on its daily operations. While Apple is no stranger to litigation, regularly defending itself from lawsuits, this is the first time that a major American corporation has lodged legal complaints at HTC. Nevertheless, the Taiwanese company has not slowed down; on the contrary, it is busy launching benchmark Android 2.1 smartphones in Europe (Desire, Legend) and prepping American releases (Evo 4G, Incredible). Another year in technology guarantees several things: new gadgets and new lawsuits. Recently, Nokia sued Apple; i4i Ltd won its lawsuit against Microsoft; Apple sued HTC, and now, Dell is suing a group of well known Asian LCD monitor manufacturers for alleged price-fixing. HannStar, Hitachi, Sharp, Toshiba, and Seiko Epson have been named in the case. Most copyright lawsuits are, in my view, the result of extremely broad and vague copyright patents, but Dell’s lawsuit is entirely different and, if true, surely justified. More »

Lower Merion School District is located in the suburbs of Philadelphia. One unique feature of this school is that they distribute laptops to their students. The laptops are used to promote technology-integrated lessons, spy on students, and to nourish the learning of the users. Wait… What was the second thing? SPY ON STUDENTS!? More »
The legal battle over Skype is still not over. The founders of Skype are suing eBay for $75 million per day for continuing to use, what they claim, is their copyrighted software. The software in question is the peer-toper technology being used in Skype without their permission. The company that recently bought a portion of Skype from eBay, is also named in the suit. More »
Microsoft is going to be out some serious cash after the case against them over patent infringement is finally settled. Canadian company i4i, sued Microsoft over the Office Open XML file format found in Microsoft Office because it infringed on one of their patents.
This past Tuesday, Microsoft filed an injunction to delay the $290 it owes i4i over damages and asked to put a halt to a court order that asked Microsoft to stop selling Word within 60 days. Microsoft says if they’re not allowed to sell Word, then they won’t be able to sell the Microsoft Office software which would harm the company beyond repair. More »
Talk about more bizarre news. Amazon is being sued by a high school student after Amazon pulled the copies or George Orwell’s 1984. Amazon faced a barrage of criticism after deleting the books from user’s kindles. CEO Jeff Bezos publicly apologized, but people were still upset. The student Justin Gawronksi, says he bought the Orwell book to complete a summer assignment and had taken notes on the Kindle. More »
