We currently in a digital age but one school is taking it to the next level. Cushing Academy, a Boston prep school, is redesigning their entire library, and turning it digital to keep up with the times. The school is updating its library by getting rid of all the books and replacing it with three flat screen televisions, a coffee bar, eighteen eReaders, and laptops. According to James Tracy, the headmaster, books are “outdated technology.”
While Tracy may be right, books are outdated technology, completely getting rid of them is probably not the smartest move. To fill a library with a few laptops, 18 eReaders (only 18?! WTF) and some TVs are not going to help kids do actual research. Books are always going to have the best source of information for any kind of research and its extremely easy to cheat and write a paper using online sources. More »
