Among the four main American carriers, BlackBerry has slipped from the top spot. Sprint’s top seller is the HTC Evo 4G; T-Mobile’s front-runner is the MyTouch 3G Slide; the Droid Incredible and Motorola Droid are kings of Verizon, and the iPhone 4 is obviously AT&T’s darling now. Android handsets captured 28% of the market, while the iPhone was third with 21%. Both trail BlackBerry’s 36% lead. However, these numbers must be kept in perspective: the iPhone 3GS is an EOL (End of Life) product that has been severely affected by the Gizmodo leak; there are only two iPhone models available, and one network carries them, while several prominent Android smartphones have launched in Q1, including the Motorola Devour and Google Nexus One. From Htcyou: In my estimation, some of Apple’s copyright infringement complaints against HTC can apply equally to other Android smartphone manufacturers like Motorola and Samsung, yet HTC was targeted because of the company’s strong US rise and dissociation with Apple. Samsung makes Apple’s “A4” and iPhone ARM processors and will be the primary LCD source for the iPad; obviously, Apple does not want to sue a valuable supplier.
