Yesterday, the upcoming Android 2.1 QWERTY smartphone Motorola Charm showed up on an internal screen capture as listing for $269.99 outright and $74.99 with contract. The latter price made no sense to me. It seems like I had reason to be baffled because a new T-Mobile poster indicates that the Charm will be free with a 2-year term. More »

From Htcyou: The Motorola Charm (or Basil) is an intriguing smartphone because it is the only 4:3 aspect ratio Android unit with a full QWERTY keypad that is non-slide-out. Another reason why the 2.1 Eclair Charm could be interesting, especially to youths, is that it might be sold for an extremely low $269.99 outright. More »

Motorola’s Droid X is stirring quite a ruckus among smartphone connoisseurs and is bound to be a big seller for Verizon. The full-page New York Times advertisement that Verizon took to promote the upcoming phone is informative and derisive, as it makes fun of the iPhone 4’s ongoing antenna reception problems. More »

5. Google Android smartphones are rather fast sellers, moving at 2 per second. Samsung’s Galaxy S is being renamed the Vibrant for T-Mobile. More »

In a MacWorld “shoot out” that proves smartphone cameras still trail behind dedicated cameras for image quality, the iPhone 4 came out on top with its 5-megapixel lens over notables like the unreleased Motorola Droid X and the HTC Evo 4G, both with 8-megapixel lenses (click the headline picture for an uncompressed 1605×1200 version). From Htcyou: In one of the tests (Linpack), the Nexus One has an unfair advantage over the Evo 4G and Motorola Droid X because Google’s machine is running Android 2.2, which we all know is a performance whore. Anyway, check the 720p embedded clip to see the three phones stressed, and why the Droid X is supreme. More »

From Htcyou: About 3 weeks before its launch, the Motorola Droid X has been dismantled for your viewing. Unlike the iPhone 4 leak, there is little chance of controversy here because (a) Motorola is nowhere near as secretive as Apple, (b) the Droid X, as coveted as it is, will never approach 15% of the iPhone 4’s sales, (c) Motorola has already announced and leaked the product, so it was not stolen or “found,” although I highly doubt that Moto has authorized this teardown. From Htcyou: BGR reports that some Verizon stores are closing by 4PM on Sunday, June 27th for an event that all employees must attend. No one knows what the meetings entail. The unprecedented closure for Verizon could be a company shake-up and/or the preparations for the launch(es) of the Motorola Droid 2 and/or Droid X. More »

From Htcyou: Blog Android and Me is the first to be graced with a preview of Motorola’s Droid 2, which looks like its predecessor (except for the re-worked keypad) but internally is housing a beastly 1GHz TI OMAP3630 processor (Droid has 550MHz TI OMAP343) with integrated PowerVR SGX530 graphics and 512Mb RAM (over 256Mb in the Droid). Benchmarks conducted show that the Droid 2 is substantially faster than the original, which is still one of the more powerful smartphones out there. More »
