I’m not sure if you’re thinking what I’m thinking but, what genius came up with this one? NEC would be the answer! They’ve somehow created a method to control gadgets through a wristband, a wristband that can sense any poking you inflict upon your arm from your finger. Poking has never been this cool. This is useful because you won’t need about 304102 buttons crammed on your device but just the 304102 options alone. More »

NEC is famous for its retro gaming controllers but now they’ve come out with something that is likely to be a big hit in the tech world. Just yesterday, NEC opened the lid on their latest project, the first remote control that runs without batteries. Working alongside Soundpower Corp., NEC has managed to create a vibration based power generating device, built into the remote. The power generating device is connected to a microcomputer and a power supply controller which gets the circuits close enough to generate a small amount of power on even the slightest amount of electricity. Japan’s largest phone manufacturer, Sharp, better start looking in the rear view mirror because NEC, Hitachi and Casio are creeping up from behind. According to news out of Japan, NEC, Hitachi and Casio are all in talks to merge their cell phone business into one massive division.

The media reports out of Japan are saying NEC is hoping to join a pact already created between Casio and Hitachi. The new joint venture is a way to cut costs and will be looking to get started sometime in 2010, most likely around April. Hopefully this means these companies can crank out phones to other parts of the world faster. More »
