Nokia and RIM can deny problems with their phones all that they want, but Apple’s press conference claims on Friday actually have merit. The so called “death grip” of an antenna on a smartphone can lead to significant signal loss on almost every phone. Watch these videos for proof. More »

Woz was enthralled with his Google Nexus One when he purchased it, and although he still loves Android’s useful voice recognition, he thinks that its open source foundation (ironically) makes it too similar to Windows, an operating system that tries to do everything but staggers at doing anything well. From Htcyou: Droid Life is on a roll today. After the juicy bit of information about the Droid Incredible, the blog is citing one of its “most reliable sources” to report that July 13th marks the date for the Motorola Droid’s upgrade to Android 2.2 FroYo. More »

From Htcyou: In one of the tests (Linpack), the Nexus One has an unfair advantage over the Evo 4G and Motorola Droid X because Google’s machine is running Android 2.2, which we all know is a performance whore. Anyway, check the 720p embedded clip to see the three phones stressed, and why the Droid X is supreme. More »

From Htcyou: Verizon says that the Motorola Droid is receiving Android 2.2 FroYo in July, presumably before the upcoming Droid X, which is shipping with Eclair on July 15th. More »

It has been a long and painful journey, but Adobe has finally given Flash 10.1 to its mobile platform partners using the following operating systems: “Android, BlackBerry, webOS, Windows Phone 7 Series, LiMo, MeeGo and Symbian.” Flash 10.1 on Android requires 2.2 FroYo, which is unofficially available for Google’s Nexus One and will be run on many Android smartphones by Q4 of this year. Adobe had kept its supporters waiting, but now the “F” ball is in their courts. Let the hunt for crashes, bugs, and security holes begin. The iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch will be spared from Flash 10.1’s havoc. More »

From Htcyou: Straight from Google is build FRF72 of Android 2.2 for the Nexus One. Before you venture off to perform the non OTA update, ensure that you have the FRF50 build, which must be installed on an unrooted unit. More »

Specifically, ZodTTD’s PSX emulator, due to popular demand, is programmed for Android 2.1 and 2.2, with fast smartphones like the Nexus One, whose 1GHz Snapdragon processor screams. More »

From Htcyou: Canada’s biggest CDMA carrier, Telus is reportedly getting the HTC Desire, which the company has relabeled the “Triumph.” Telus’ countdown timer to a major June 8th (which is, incidentally, one day after Steve Jobs‘ expected iPhone 4G/HD keynote) “Unleashing” could very well be for what would be the nation’s best domestic Android 2.1 smartphone. From Htcyou: Google’s official over-the-air Android 2.2 FroYo update for its only branded phone should be live within a few weeks, but for the impetuous and bored who own a Nexus One, you can install the new OS right now. More »

From Htcyou: HTC has confirmed that the Droid Incredible, Evo 4G, MyTouch Slide, and Desire are on the priority list to receive Android 2.2 updates, but none of them is getting the new OS until the second half of this year. Although HTC has not made a statement about 2009 models, the adverb that “most” 2010 units will get FroYo indicates to me that there is no chance for the likes of the G1, MyTouch 3G, and Droid Eris since not “all” 2010 smartphones will be upgraded. From Htcyou: Although it is only in alpha stage right now, and the ROM is horribly buggy and slow, a ROM of Android 2.2 FroYo from XDA Developers is “working” on the Nexus One and Verizon’s Droid Eris. More »

From Htcyou: Mobile Syrup is reporting that Telus Canada has snagged the HTC Desire and has rebranded it as the Triumph. US Cellular is releasing the Desire in July, so the likelihood of a similar Canadian launch is high. More »

Make it “Photo and Video of the Day.” What you are staring at is rumored to be Google’s Android 2.2Froyo” operating system running on a Nexus One. One of the benefits (or blights, depending on your allegiances) of Google’s next smartphone OS is that Adobe Flash 10.1 is integrated. If this clip is genuine and is not simply a modified Android 2.1 or earlier ROM (I am not cognizant of an existing Android ROM that can run full Flash this well), then Ryan Stewart, the video’s uploader and self-professed Adobe “evangelist,” makes a cogent argument for Flash and Froyo. From Htcyou: There was no sense in Sprint’s selling the Google Nexus One when the HTC Evo 4G is so close to launch. Google should have offered its smartphone on Sprint’s CDMA network months ago when there was room for it. Like Verizon’s Droid Incredible, the Evo 4G surpasses the Nexus One in every way except price. In some humorous news, would you like to buy a T-Mobile MyTouch 3G Slide before its official release?
