Major bookstore brand Barnes & Nobles has just given their iPad, iPhone, and PC Nook apps a major makeover. Most important feature? The rebranding. Whereas old apps had the B&N logo emblazoned at the upper left hand corner of every page (see below), new apps are now branded with the Nook logo (above)—smart move, if you ask me. More »

From Htcyou: Spring Design’s Alex eReader is a duo-screen Android media player and EPD e-reader on a slate, not a folder like the enTourage eDGe, but rather akin to the Barnes & Noble Nook. The Alex shipped a few weeks ago. Two reviewers praised it for relatively fast performance but denounced its $399 price and tiny selection of books. More »

Aside from 3D television, the third generation “e-readers” are also a huge topic of interest. Like their television counterparts, the competition for the best e-reader out there is tough. Barnes & Nobles competitor to the Amazon Kindle, The Nook, has apparently sold out. The New York Times is reporting that B&N didn’t think they’d get such a hit on their hands and are now saying they don’t have enough for everyone this holiday season.
Like Barnes & Noble, this is a big surprise to me as well. While the price is competitive with the Kindle, I didn’t think the Nook had enough to compete with the Kindle’s popularity and new print and commercial ads. To help those who might get upset at B&N for not having enough Nooks, (sounds like Nukes when you say it out loud), Barnes & Nobles is offering place holder certificates for those still interested in buying the device. The next batch of shipment will begin on January 4th, 2010.
Beware Kindle! Here comes the new Barnes & Noble dual screened Nook ereader. This amazing, all black ereader is one of the few ereaders out on the market now that sports two screens. The screen on the bottom displays a variety of books while the top lets you read your book choice.
The Nook will definitely be giving the Kindle some competition, with the $259 price tag and the dual screens. The only thing that makes the Nook fall behind is the book selection from B&N, which is overshadowed by the thousands of books available in Amazon’s store. We’ll have to wait and see how the game plays out between these two ereaders. The Nook is expected to ship at the end of November for $259. More »
