Mobiado, from my own backyard of Vancouver, is not the one asking the question about its beautiful Classic 712EM cell phone –I am. Although technologically unremarkable, the 712EM’s charm is in its aesthetics and attention to detail, the finer qualities of life. The iPhone 4 looks shabby beside the Mobiado, which probably has few antenna issues too since Canadians, Americans, and everyone else can safely use it with a good GSM/WCDMA carrier. More »

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Dan Schulman of Sprint has conceded what everyone knows, that the Palm Pre has failed to live up to expectations. Sprint CFO Robert Brust says that his company would “love” to carry the iPhone, but unfortunately, there is no contract in place to do so. Brust’s statement should dispel the notion that the 10 million CDMA iPhones that Apple has allegedly ordered are going anywhere near Sprint, yet Verizon iPhone rumors persist despite Ivan Seidenberg’s (Verizon CEO) statement that he did not know whether his company was getting the coveted phone. If the Chief of Verizon is unaware, how do these reporters know? More »

Palm is about to sell to the highest bidder, says Bloomberg. Lenovo and HTC are apparently the front-runners to buy the sinking Palm corporation. More »

I feel for Jon Rubinstein. His company was the pioneer of the smartphone forerunner, the PDA (although Apple’s Newton started it all). In the late 1990s, Palm was an enviable company, but its failure to transition (successfully) its products to the smartphone market has doomed the once glorious creator of numerous beloved PDAs. From Htcyou: Adobe has confirmed that it will demonstrate Flash 10.1 on the Motorola Droid, the Nexus One, and also the Palm Pre. As reported earlier this week, Microsoft will showcase its next version of mobile Windows, called Windows Phone 7. More »

Apple seems to be in the news alot today. Here’s another, but this time it’s about their small war against the Palm Pre.
When the Palm Pre first launched, the developers, some of them which were previous Apple employees, put in a code that made iTunes think it was syncing with an iPod and allowed iPod syncing capabilities. Apple quickly caught on and released an update that removed the feature. Palm responded with an update that allowed the syncing once again. It went back and forth like this for some time before Palm decided to take the matter to USB Implementary Forum, saying Apple is violating the principle of open connectivity. The USB-IF responded today, in favor of Apple, making Palm feel like an idiot for bringing it to the Forum in the beginning. More »
Dan Hesse must be a huge Michael Jordan fan or has been watching the Basketball Hall of Fame induction ceremony yesterday because when Charlie Rose asked him about how the Palm Pre is fairing against Apple’s iPhone, he said the iPhone needs to be put in a separate category, that it’s almost like comparing it to Michael Jordan. Here’s the Q&A:
Q: Is the Palm Pre making a dent into the iPhone market?
A: Aaah… It’s-it’s doing well, but you can almost put the iPhone, to be fair, in a separate category. The Apple brand and that device have done so well, it’s almost not… it’s like comparing someone to Michael Jordan.
Palm Pre has finally hit countries outside of he U.S. and they didn’t really go far. Bell, a Canadian company, is going to be the exclusive provider of the Palm Pre and they’ve started with some nifty ads. It’s available now but looking at the Bell site and the Palm Pre contract, the iPhone contract doesn’t seem so bad now. Bell is making customers sign up for a 3 year contract to get the $199.95 deal. That’s 3 years! By then we could have a 5th generation iPhone. And we all thought AT&T was killing us with a 2-year contract on the iPhone.
If you’re in Canada and want the Palm Pre, it’s available to you, just expect to pony up. Check out some videos here of the Pre in Canada. More »
Doesn’t this next video look exactly like the Apple iPhone ads? Looks like Palm is taking a bite out of Apple’s marketing team. More »
You’ve probably seen those creepy Palm Pre ads with Tamara Hope that make absolutely make no sense and scare the heck out of you. The more I watch these commercials, the more I start to hate Palm Pre phone. It’s a great phone with a wonderful OS but if Palm continues to release these ads, it’ll just freak people out from buying the phones.
Palm decided to release a new, more toned down version of the phone but is still creepy. Check it out here. Take a look at all these videos after the break. More »
Gotta love Palm. They announced a patch that now fixes the iTunes syncing problem Apple had patched the other day. Palm released the webOS 1.1.0 making this fight even better than I expected. I wonder if Apple will release a patch to fix this new “problem”. I’m kind of excited to see what happens. Palm is not backing down at all, which is not what many expected.

Remember when the Palm Pre was released and everyone was super excited to find out that it synced with Apple’s iTunes? Yeah, the good old days right? Well, Apple wasn’t happy about it and soon enough they did something to resolve this issue. Apple released the update, iTunes 8.2.1, that fixes some bugs and “it addresses an issue with verification of Apple devices” aka no more Palm Pre syncing. More »
