Sony had been selling each PS3 console at massive losses since its launch in 2006. The PS3 Slim cut production costs and simplified the system, allowing Sony to break almost even at $300 per unit. For the first time in the PS3’s life, Sony is going to turn a profit on its investment. Meanwhile, Nintendo’s DS and variants have sold so well worldwide that it should overtake the Playstation 2 as the best selling gaming system in history. More »


Alright folks, it’s pretty much official, the Playstation 3 Slim is almost here. Kmart and Sears both have a product page for the upcoming Sony Playstation 3 Slim. The product page on Sears has some detailed info:

PS3, SLIM High-Definition Blu-ray player for the best movie experience. Free PLAYSTATION Network membership. 120GB HDD for downloading games, music, videos, and photos. Includes DUAL SHOCK 3 controller. HDMI output for 1080p resolution.

There are no pics, obviously, but a $299 price tag and a release date of 8/24/09 is shown. If you’re interested in getting more information and possibly a picture, bookmark the page and keep hitting refresh. Next Monday, we’ll be allowed to order what’s been rumored for quite some time.
