Probably just a case of new gadget hysteria, but Microsoft’s redesigned Xbox 360 is hot commodity. It was long overdue for a complete revamp. Sony came out with its cheaper to produce PS3 Slim eons ago, and aside from shrinking the graphics and CPU die on the Xbox motherboard, Microsoft had done nothing since now. More »

On May 19th, Sony requested for the FCC to keep all PS3 filings confidential for 180 days. Today, two new Playstation 3 models have appeared on FCC’s website: CECH-2501A and CECH-2501B, both of which have the same specs except for different “HDD type.” More »

Sony had been selling each PS3 console at massive losses since its launch in 2006. The PS3 Slim cut production costs and simplified the system, allowing Sony to break almost even at $300 per unit. For the first time in the PS3’s life, Sony is going to turn a profit on its investment. Meanwhile, Nintendo’s DS and variants have sold so well worldwide that it should overtake the Playstation 2 as the best selling gaming system in history. More »

MVC is writing that a “senior global publishing source” has told the website that Sony and Microsoft are both planning to drop the prices of their respective gaming consoles, possibly by E3 (June 15-17th). More »

Benjamin Heckendorn is an eminent gaming console mod madman. His latest piece of art is a dreamy black and blue Sony PS3 Slim laptop that can be transported about like a suitcase. More »

God of War III, moving 1.1 million copies, was the highest profile release in March, and the PS3 exclusive game helped Sony’s system skyrocket 44% in sales during the month. After years of lagging behind the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii, the PS3 seems to be gaining more momentum, as it has increased sales for each of the past 8 consecutive months. More »

OK, these are more like “pretty good,” not wicked, mods, but they are easy to install and take virtually minutes to assemble. I have never been in favor of chrome for anything, but somehow, these replacement cases for the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3/PS3 Slim are tasteful. More »

The PS3 Slim has already hit 1 million units sold and it’s just getting started. Sony is planning to release a special edition white and pink Final Fantasy Play Station 3 slim for all you die-hard fans.

While I’m not a huge fan of the pink on the white (couldn’t come up with a better color?!), I’d love to have one of those white PS3 Slims in my living room. They’ll be coming to Japan first, and expect to pay a hefty price for it. More »

It’s finally official. Sony has released their highly rumored Playstation 3 Slim. The Slim which has been popping up everywhere with pictures and rumors, will be available to the public in the first week of September and will cost $300 before taxes.

The new PS 3 Slim is lighter, smaller, has a 120 GB HDD and offers all the similar features of it’s older and heavier brethren. While the new PS 3 Slim was announced, Sony also dropped the prices on the older Playstation 3 models by a $100. But like I said before, why would anyone pay $300 for a heavier, older and less capacity PS 3 when you can get the Slim with more capacity for the same price. I wish Sony had cut the prices a little bit more, maybe $150 or $200, because most people will not buy the older Playstation 3. Sony finally has a day for themselves after all. Pics from the announcements after the break. More »
