The Wall Street Journal cites a close source that claims Sony is plotting to take a big bite out of Apple’s iPhone and iPad. Supposedly, a PSP Phone and an iPad-like e-reader/tablet are in development. More »

Nintendo has declared that its new DSi XL, which will debut on March 28th for $190, is also an e-reader. While Rob Dyer at SCEA did not actually use the term “overpriced” to describe the PSPgo, he did admit that “the higher price point” of the unit compared to the regular PSP has not helped “matters any.” The PSPgo has been a sales dud, but Sony and its third party publishers have some triple A titles on schedule for this year in hopes of boosting sales. From Wirebot:

By now we’ve all heard what the analysts and game developers think about the iPad, but what about the gamers? How do are we feel about the new tablet? We are thrilled, or at least should be. Since forever clever gamers have been taking apart their coveted consoles and resembling them into more compact shells so they can take their gaming on the road without suffering the drawbacks and limitations that come along with a portable gaming system. Most of the time these contraptions become pieces of fanboy high art, being much too bulky for logical usage. With the iPad, Apple has simplified our vision and gathered support from many developers. We’ve covered both the top gadgets of the year and ones that didn’t quite make the list. But what about the top blog posts of the year? Based on search engine results, the following are the Top 10 ZiggyTek stories of 2009. More »

From Ningin: Alas, my very first portable gaming system. Although I’ve been playing games since 1984, I never was fortunate enough back then to get a regular black and white Gameboy, especially not the Neo Geo pocket or Atari Lynx. Don’t know what these things are? If you don’t that’s fine, just keep it to yourself and don’t ask me what Moses was like during his teens. More »

I was somewhat surprised with the PSP Go’s launch. It was not the device that was unexpected but rather its price and form factor. Usually, when a portable gaming machine (or a console) has been out for years, a company improves it while lowering prices. Instead, Sony went an unconventional route and radically altered the PSP’s functionality by releasing the PSP Go, which removed the ability to play hundreds of existing UMD-only games that millions of PSP owners already have in their collection. In addition to this bizarre move, Sony also made the PSP Go a “premium” PSP and decided to sell it for substantially more than the standard unit. More »

Has the Sony fanboy suffering finally ended? After spending the last few years nibbling at the heels of Xbox 360 exclusives the PS3 has at long last tripped up its rival with Metacritic hailing the black box as the system of the year? More »

Put ‘em up. Your wrists, I mean. Raise those wrists high and proud. They are now your future energy source for the gadgets you most dearly love and most often have to recharge. The Brando USB wristband charger, I am so convinced, was made for people like me. People who constantly misplace cell phone chargers, or anything portable that requires recharging. More »

Although Alexa already mentioned this new piece of hardware, I again wanted to draw attention to something that is both a blessing and a curse to the world of gaming. 1up.com has posted a gallery of them comparing the new Nintendo DSi XL to other portable devices. More »

From Wirebot: Just two days after Japanese business newspaper Nikkei Shimbun published a rumour that Nintendo will update their current DSi with a larger 4 inch screen, Nintendo announced the DSi LL. This update was planned after customers wanted a larger screen. More »

Sony and Zenrin have joined forces to create their new navigation software for the PSP. This will be arriving in Japan on November 5th to Y8190. The features of Nav- U are all there and have very powerful searches and on-point walking routes. There is no way you are getting lost with this thing.

The most usable and interesting feature on this add-on software is PlaceEngine which is basically GPS through WiFi. Many people in Japan already use this technology but PlaceEngine takes it to a whole new level, making it specific all the way down to sidewalks, crossings, subways, and other things. With all of this technology being introduced, I can’t help but wonder, when will this be coming to the US? More »

Adorably cute wildly successful rag doll dancing physics touting PS3 platformer LittleBigPlanet will be getting a PSP version some time this year, Sony revealed this week. Part of a bevy of announcements of new releases intended to give the stagnant PSP a new jolt of life, LBP will be joining other releases, More »
