Sony has recently been rumored to be quietly discontinuing the PSPgo, as the stock for the device in Japanese and European retailers are running low, while Sony is not shipping any more units out. The US Sony Style Store still has this handheld gaming device in stock, but it is also unavailable in Japan’s Sony Style Store. More »


In March, The Wallstreet Journal reported that Sony was developing a PSP Phone. MCV UK says that “a senior industry source” has told the website that Sony is likely to announce a PSP sequel, not a remake, at E3 next month. More »

The Wall Street Journal cites a close source that claims Sony is plotting to take a big bite out of Apple’s iPhone and iPad. Supposedly, a PSP Phone and an iPad-like e-reader/tablet are in development. More »


Nintendo has declared that its new DSi XL, which will debut on March 28th for $190, is also an e-reader. Apple’s iPad and iPod Touch/iPhone are breaking into the Japanese gaming corporation’s territory; the DSi XL is return fire that will a title called “100 Classic Books,” which includes works from Shakespeare and Twain. While Rob Dyer at SCEA did not actually use the term “overpriced” to describe the PSPgo, he did admit that “the higher price point” of the unit compared to the regular PSP has not helped “matters any.” The PSPgo has been a sales dud, but Sony and its third party publishers have some triple A titles on schedule for this year in hopes of boosting sales.
