The Kinect sensor by itself with Kinect Adventures game is going to cost what we have feared, $149.99 in November. Microsoft’s redesigned black Xbox “slim” will be released in a 4Gb capacity version in matte instead of glossy for $199.99 on August 3rd. Last of all, $299.99 buys gamers a Kinect bundle, along with the aforementioned Xbox console for $299.99. More »

Probably just a case of new gadget hysteria, but Microsoft’s redesigned Xbox 360 is hot commodity. It was long overdue for a complete revamp. Sony came out with its cheaper to produce PS3 Slim eons ago, and aside from shrinking the graphics and CPU die on the Xbox motherboard, Microsoft had done nothing since now. More »

A separate peek by Anandtech into the “Valhalla” motherboard confirms that the “Slim,” using a single chip to integrate graphics, CPU, and eDRAM onto one die, is noticeably quieter (thanks to the removal of one fan), cooler, and significantly more energy efficient than the “Jasper” boards that it replaces. Solomods is offering the service for $129. Have a gander at what is involved, and you will probably concur with my estimation that the mod is too simplistic to deserve anywhere near the asking price. Basically, the only potential performance boost is the 12V fan –being able to see some of the internals and the DVD spinning is worth over a bill? The new Xbox 360 appears to be as easy to disassemble as the old model. Anyone can do it in under 10 minutes. More »

Via Twitter, Major Nelson has confirmed that Project Natal is officially named “Kinect.” Meanwhile, an Italian website briefly featured an embedded advertisement that shows a redesigned Xbox 360, presumed to the Xbox Slim. More »
